Western Digital working on 20,000 RPM Raptor

According to several sources close to the hard drive industry, Western Digital is working on a 20,000 RPM Raptor hard drive to combat the increasing pressure from SSD manufacturers

our sources said that the drive will be ‘silent’ – that’s the last thing I would have expected from a drive with platters spinning at 20,000 RPM. Western Digital is apparently working on silencing the beast by improving the housing technology, which will now not just act as a heatsink, but also as a noise cancelling device...

Yeah, I'm not sure why they are not going to 15K rpm drives - they already have the technology from their SCSI drives. 20K rpm - what are they going to be 1.8" drives???

I bet the time WD gets the 20,000rpm drives working there will be cheaper SSD drives out there.

Heck, I'd be happy with a veloci-raptor (hmm, think I'll go put one in my Newegg Fall08 wish list!).

I think Itll probably be cheaper than an SSD compared to size for the price.
