Windows 7 RC gets its first bug, and it's a doozy

The first documented bug in the Windows 7 Release Candidate (build 7100) is a doozy.
Yesterday, Microsoft published Knowledge Base article 970789, which provides details of a problem that affects the 32-bit (x86) English-language version of Windows 7 build 7100. The problem, in short, is that the installer incorrectly sets access control lists (ACLs) on the root of the system drive.

Does this mean they will do another build before final release (RC2?) or will they just release 7100 with the patch available on the update site until SP1 comes out?

Re: Windows 7 RC gets its first bug, and it's a doozy

I'd assume they won't release a second public RC.

They'll fix this before they release to manufacturing, naturally. Candidate being the operative word. There's still room for bug fixes. And probably room for releasing new builds to select customers for further testing.

Seems like a pretty easy fix and according the the kb article, it's already available through Windows update.

I like Ed Bott----but he seems to be really struggling lately...

Going for the sensationalist more and more...

Doozy???

True, its apparently easily fixed... although I wonder about directories created prior to the fix...

But the impact of the unfixed situation is potentially very high. Doesnt say much about MS quality control and doesnt promote confidence. Remember this is supposed to be the answer to the criticism they had over Vista.

True....

And MS certainly doesn't need any more negative publicity----not after Vista----and whether it was justified or not.....

The reality is that most common folks have a negative perception about Vista....

But not me....

Why just the other day I held a Vista Fan Club meeting and me and 9 other people on the planet showed up.....

So there you go.....

heh heh, well I dont think you saw me there, although I'm a reasonably happy Vista user... some issues with hibernate and some minor performance issues marred the experience a bit earlier on... especially since Xp was so stable for me. But I do like the new interface... once I'd tweaked it up to my liking...

I dont think they will ever shake the "Vista, Fista!" moniker...

It was held in a Microsoft On-Campus Starbucks....

Coffee was good though----and FREE....as long as you watched a 5 minute Demo on the wonders of Windows 7....

And I must point out your under appreciation of the numbers who attended this august event.

Me and 9 others actually makes 10 LOL....
