I was hoping it was removed just for the beta testing to force users to try out the updated start menu. Looks like I'll be a Vista boy for ever!
I am not happy about this either, but I don't think it will prevent me from going to Win7. Just a big negative...

Can you still set the control panel to classic view?

The view isn't really classic, but you can set it to display "large icons" or "small icons" via the option at the top right of the window. Either of these switches it to a view similar to classic.

Re: Windows 7 RC1 made available for download

Running the 32 bit on my Dell laptop, did a clean install from the beta 7000 build, 20 minutes to desktop, then another 1.5 hours installing programs, everything working great, painless! Here's a link to a video of a install using dvd and a usb thumb drive!

It's searchable and quickly so. Far better than any icon view they can throw at us, really.

One really great improvement. I just wish e.g. Vista indexed and searched inside PDFs and other ISO-classed formats automagically.

Looks like the mouse is being replaced by the keyboard! Who would have thought! Vista's control panel is search able but I never bothered as a single click is much faster. Maybe in windows 8 we will be forced to access everything from search. Better yet the command prompt! Silly Ars Microsucks.

Re: Windows 7 RC1 made available for download

I've got X64 up and running on my main rig and so far so good. I had to install readydriver+ to force it into test mode to get Rivatuner to load ( unsigned driver ).. It also took a couple of reg tweaks to get Ultramon happening.

It's very nice, yes. They're moving more and more towards search everywhere. A very good thing, the OS should make it easy for me to find my stuff or what I want done without me having to click around like a madman.

I believe it is June 1st 2010. Wish I could remember the link where I read about it

I'll have a look about and see if I can find it again

I have been running the 32 bit version of RC1 Since Sunday this week, and it will be difficult for me to return to my Vista install. Definately grabbing a copy of this when it goes retail.

Re: Windows 7 RC1 made available for download

I put the 32 bit on my laptop and 64 bit on my main rig, no problems, really like it!
