That's the question.....what do you plan to upgrade before the end of the year?

Talking

I have no plans to upgrade anything on my system for at least a year or longer. I already did my upgrades for the year! I just got a Pentium 4 3.2 Northwood C a month or so ago, an AIW X800 XT video card shortly after that and I also recently bought a D875PBZLK motherboard (as a backup to my D865PERLK).

I spent my dough and I think I am set for a while and I am pretty sure there isn't much out there that my system cannot handle.

Since I cannot sling around my tower anyway given my recent surgery, and I really have things working very well and smoothly on all my systems, I am going to hold in place for perhaps as much as a year or more unless I must make some changes for some reason. I just don't see that the new hardware can provide me with that much more "bang for the buck" that it makes sense. And, given the limitations of what I do and XP, I don't see that even speeding things up will make my "computing experience" any more interesting. Frankly a couple of seconds or even a few minutes saved doing something intensive like video encoding just isn't that impressive to me. Now, if I were more into benchmarking, that would be different, but that has never been one of my primary interests in computing, although I certainly do use them when thinking about purchasing new hardware, or when working on new hardware and optimizing my systems.

Now in a couple of years when Longhorn (or whatever the name de jure is) comes along in a stable form (probably after SP1 for that OS), I may want to reconsider what I am going to do. Given that Longhorn appears to be just an interface upgrade, I may not move off of XP for quite a while anyway, and if I do, I may finally make the jump to Linux for my main systems anyway, and get off of the MS bandwagon for good.

I have my first DVD burner to install. It's been sitting on the shelf for over 2 months. Maybe it will get done this year!

I am very excited at the prospect of a completely new life in the United States of America as a college student. I would be building a new computer, so technically speaking its a big upgrade for me. But whats more exciting is the possibility of actually meeting some of my ABXBuds™.

I'm still using an old ATI 9700P that's starting to show it's age. I'm gonna let the market shake out a bit, and try to get the best bang for my buck.

I voted nothing, as their really ins't anything to upgarde to. Dang EOL s478 . I don't really count my server as an upgrade since my main rig won't be retiring anytime soon.

I just upgraded my video card, an AIW 8500 128 to a X800Pro and HDTV Wonder, so maybe I'll upgrade my power supply, but that's it. I'm happy with my setup (see sig).
