On an Intel board I had a similar problem. I had a bad flash of the BIOS. I reflashed down a couple of times, then I reflashed to the current BIOS at the time. In each case I reset the BIOS settings to default/optimal prior to each flash.

I have the straight A8N-SLI for which the latest BIOS is 1014. I have 1013 and other than a couple minor issues here and there it seems fine. Any reason I should load the new one? I know it supports more CPUs but if that's it then it probably isn't worth bothering with.

Also how can I tell if my motherboard has the fixed northbridge fan on it? Is there a way to tell?

After years of being an Intel boy, I've finally decided that AMD would be a better choice for me, so I'm still in a learning phase I'm using BIOS 1009, and would like to know what the memclock index value (Mhz) is. I'm running PC4000 DDR mem, and that value is set to 400MHz. Is that the best value for it to be set at? Thanks

Also what is PEG Link mode? And as long as your reading this, is it a good idea to enable S.M.A.R.T. monitering..any loss in performance if I do? An-nnd what setting should I have in the PCI Clock Synchronization Mode, it's set to auto, but it can be set to CPU and locked at 33.33 Many thanks in advance

I have not read the hole thread, just part of it (15 random pages). I would normally read it all but now I have very short time, I am at work and I am ordering these parts soon.

I am building my new rig and have decided to buy the Asus A8N-SLI Premium because the heatpipes, the A8N32-SLI Deluxe is also nice but I am really not going to use SLI so I don't see the point on expending the difference.

I have some very concrete questions about this new system:

-Are there any known issues that I would be wary about this board?

-Have you something to say about the compatibility of any of my components on this platform?

-Is the onboard audio a better solution over my PCI Audigy 2?

-Is it ok to use the Nvidia LAN or are there any issues? I only need to use one of them really.

This is going to be my setup:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
XFX GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 XXX
Western Digital Raptor 74GB for OS disk.
Thermalright SI-120 CPU heatsink with a Nexus 120mm fan.

Things that I already have and will use on this syetem:

Antec SLK3000B case w/ 2 Nexus 120mm fans (intake and exhaust)
MIST 500BHE12 w/ Active PFC 500W Silent PSU.
1GB Corsair Twinx3200LL (2x512)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 SATA 500GB for storage
HSP56 v90 PCI Modem
Pioneer 106s DVD ¤ Plextor Premium 52X CDRW ¤ BenQ DW1655A DVDRW.
SB Audigy 2 ¤ Cambridge Megaworks 550D speakers.
Some other things from my signature exept the parts been replaced and the Maxtor hard disk.

Thank you very much for your help.

Okay, I know this thread has been here for a long time and I'm sure it has been mentioned or asked before and I even posted in this thread before, but I guess I never paid much attention to posts regarding using four memory modules. Here is my question: Can I use different memory (per channel anyway) on this board? I'm thinking of using my PC3200 ZX on channel one and a Samsung PC3700 on channel two. I tried it earlier and my board went berserk, kept beeping at me only, unable to POST or boot. My guess was that it doesn't like mixed memory even though they are on different channel. Is my guess correct or wrong? Any hint will be greatly appreciated. TIA...

Okay, I did some more experiment on my so-called Samsung PC3700 (which is based on VData chip) and I found out something very weird about this combo. First, I inserted only the Samsung memory into channel one. Its timing is set at 2.5-4-4-9 @200 (PC3200) and 2.5-5-5-10 @233 (PC3700). So, I proceeded to set JumperFree Configuration to Manual and set CPU Freq. to 233 and adjust CPU Configuration Max Memclock to DDR466, and set timing to 2.5-5-5-10, Save and Exit. JumperFree Configuration went back to Auto. CPU Configuration's Max Memclock went back to DDR400. It would not save JumperFree Configuration whatsoever if I set the Max Memclock to anything higher than 400. JumperFree Configuration will always go back to Auto no matter what I did. And CPU Configuration's Memory Setting would not save at anything above 400. I am going against a brick wall.

Further, I tried one stick of my ZX in slot 1 and one stick of Samsung in slot 3, and set timing to the slower of the two, which is 2.5-4-4-9 or 2.5-5-5-10, boots right up, recognize them as Dual channel 400. Put another (any/either) stick in slot 2, boots right up, recognize them as Single channel 400 since they are now three sticks. As soon as I put the fourth stick in slot 4, BEEP....BEEP....BEEP. No POST, no boot. Okay, I think there is something wrong with this board/BIOS. It works fine otherwise when using just two sticks. Once a stick is in slot4, boom, this board goes berserk. I think it's time to either get 2x1GB sticks if I want more memory. Otherwise, a new board would probably solve this issue as well.

Do Zalman CPU-cooler fits with Deluxe Motherboard?

Before I buy this lovely motherboard, Asus SLI Deluxe, I have to know that the bracket attached to the board fits with CPU-cooler Zalman CNPS7700-Cu.

When I bought my now-using/previously motherboard, (MSI K8T NEO2F VIA K8T800PRO) I ran into a problem. The bracket on the MSI board did not fit with the cooler, though Zalman said it should fit. To solve this problem I had to use force. I had to twist and bend the bracket off  (It was glued) and the board creaked and groaned. I put on the bracket who followed the cooler, and the problem was solved.

I will not experience this problem once more, and I'll hope some of you know if Zalman's cooler fits Asus bracket? (On Zalman's homepage they say it fits, but this time I will not trust them)

The Zalman fits but you have to put a backing bracket under the cpu slot. That's fine before you install the board but it's a pain in the rear if you have to take your whole rig apart. Btw, the Zalman exceeds the recommended weight by a few grams. Mine's been there over six months now with no problems.

I've just built a gaming rig for a customer using this board. The Bios version is 1009.
Which version do I need to flash to,,, and which bios upgrade method works best with this Asus board ?
In the meantime I'll start reading more from this thread while checking back here.

Thanks in advance guys.

Oh yeah,,, here's the basic hardware list. Maybe I have a part in here that doesn't like this board ?

No RAID.

Does the Zalman CNPS7700-Cu cool better than the Thermalright XP90 (not the C version)? I like the Thermalright's cooling ability, but I don't like the method they use to mount it to the CPU. It's kind of hard taking it off or putting it on. I like something that I can mount it or take it off easily without applying pressure.

I just saw this and had to answer . On the post I just made about bios versions above the mentioned build started out with the CNPS7700-. I had to swap it for the CNPS9500 because there was not enough room for the memory in Dimm-1.
I considered bending the copper fins to allow room but just opted to replace it.
