True, very true.

I just want my freaking Ballistix to work, and they don't seem to want too. All i can think of is they test good in memtest, but fail in windows and the only reason i can think of is my DFI killed them. which probably means my CPU is still good. ARGH!!!

so anyone have Ballistix suggestions for me? I would like to get these working

isn't that the memory that Blue078 is using? seems to be working for him...the people that are using this board seem to be having no memory issues and they are using everything from Crucial to Mushkin to OCZ...check out this thread...

ECC mode was on

I just was checking out some settings in my bios, for some reason ECC mode was on. I never checked out that sub-menu before. i suppose that could cause HUGE problems since i don't have ECC ram....

gonna reinstall XP now and see how it goes

so as a big note, make sure that is not on, it seems to be on by default

Odd, well I've been reading your updates, I hope that everything pans out for you. I'm getting this board and I just bought a Geforce 7800GTX so I can't wait to get everything working. Your updates have helped a bit in figuring what I should do before installing windows to it. Thanks

so far so good, XP is almost done installing. It wouldn't even let me install on my SATA drive before when ECC was enabled :o

so far so good. i think anyway. I got XP installed. installed the chipset drivers off the disc. have dual F@H consoles up and running now. i will see if the wu's complete or not. i hope they do.

btw: i only have 1 stick of ram in now, will install the other tomorrow if all goes well here.

A few other things now.

my new cpu is maxing out at 33C according to PCProbeII (the old CPU was idling at 33C and maxing at over 40C just when browsing XP). all rails are looking rock solid while running dual F@H consoles.

I also turned down my 5v and 12v rails to 5.06v and 12.06v as measured with a DMM. i am not sure how to measure the 3.3 with a DMM so i left that alone.

just read over on another forum that the last batch of Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) BL2KIT12864Z503 memory shipped has had major flaws. about 30% of the batch is defective or is unable to run at rated stock speeds....

don't know if it's true or not but just thought I'd share the info...

well it has been successfully working since last nite, 1 wu was completed, the other is only 50% done, but it is still going strong.

i am going to put in my other stick of ram now.
