I can get all kinds of temperature differences by running the fans full-blast or totally silent at 5V or any combination. At 5V all I hear is the CPU fan.

I ran Prime '95 twice with affinity set to core 0 and core 1 respectively. I used torture test 2 for maximum heat and looked at it after 15 minutes. Shut down and opened case in between runs. The temps are from Speedfan.

Without heatpipe fan:

Fans full blast: 41/36 (CPU/MB)
Fans @ 5V: 44/49

With heatpipe fan:

Fans full blast: 41/36
Fans @ 5V: 44/46

So... At least with the stock AMD hs, it seems to make 0 difference when the case fans are doing most of the cooling. With the case fans turned down it does seem to improve the MB temp by 3 deg. without hurting the CPU temp in the least.

Only problem is, it's a loud little bugger despite it's size. Not LOUD in absolute terms but I can definitely hear it over the CPU fan. It's too bad since it does seem to help but ironicaly only when I have all the fans down at the peace & quiet level...for me it sort of defeats the purpose.
have you left the fan installed all this time?...I am thinking about installing the fan myself next week and just wanted to make sure that things are OK with your system temps wise and stability wise with it installed before trying it myself...

Eh... nevermind what I had here. I'm still waiting for my blasted order to pull through when Asus gets around to supplying the vendors.

No, I took it off just after that test. I'm determined to make this thing quiet not just cool. I suppose if I set-up Speedfan properly I could have both, but running my fans at the lowest settings works for me.

I'm still confused about that part of the review. In the BIOS we have the ability to set K8>NB and NB>SB both @ 16/16/ or 8/8. I must be missing something...or maybe he was.

My understanding was that the reason our MB has a NB and a SB--all other nf4 MBs have just the one--was to add those extra pipes. This is the only review that claims that the pipes were robbed from somewhere else.

This is from the Anandtech review:
Quote:
While both the P5N32-SLI for Intel and this A8N32-SLI for AMD provide two full speed 16-bit slots for SLI, they use a slightly different set of chipsets to drive this feature. This AMD version uses what is basically a C51 Northbridge chip without integrated graphics for the A8N32-SLI North Bridge and an nForce4 SLI chip for the South Bridge. In this hybrid design, each bridge drives one x16 slot and a total of 40 PCIe lanes are available to the board.

Since I was responding to this quote, I suppose it would be apparent I'd already read it. However, as the Hypertransport Analyzer clearly shows, the information is erroneous. (Xbitlabs is the source of the quote you re-quote - and the source I doubt).

hey

i just upgraded to bios 1009 and for some reason my ram speed went down to 133Mhz. i have OCZ PC4000 EB Platinum 2Gb kit, and for bios 703 the ram ran at 200Mhz (i haven't oc'ed anything just yet), appearently i am not the only user who as found this problem.

is there a bios setting i missed? or does this sound like a genuine bios bug?

cheers

I also had the same problem with 1009... I had my system running on 0903 with 250Mhz on OCZ EB Ram.... but when upgrade to 1009, the system won't post at the OC speed that i had same setting as 0903. Reduce the clock to auto.. and system boot, but the ram is running at 133.

Also, I notice when I OC my AMD 4400+ to 250FSB, NB-SB 250 and both of them running at 4X loc.... My Raptor 74 Raid 0 only get 75 MB on the benchmark.. I tried both Sata1 and Sata2... or Sata3 and SATA4, still getting 75 MB when OC....

why is that?

Well after a long time with problems (MSI AGP slot dead, DFI did not work with Kingston HyperX) and the IMC of my A64 (Venice 3200+) is almost dead I took an ASUS AN8-E v2.0.
A friend of mine performed mods (Vcore, Vdimm, Vdd) and all voltages are rock stable at full load.
With 1.752 Volts on chipset maximum FSB for mainboard is 360 MHz.
The BIOS version is 1008 by official site (I think) and this mainboard works fine with Kingston HyperX PC4300 CL3.0 (1*512MB I am waiting the second) and OCZ PC4000 Cl2.5 Gold edition (2*256 MB).

I got one of my problem resolve using the new 1009 Bios...

With new 1009 Bios.... Ocing... CPU 250 X4.. but the memory in order to boot, i need to loc it at 200 not 250. I thinks ASUS screw that up... when Loc at 200, it boot into xp .. and Sandra was report it running on 500mhz..so does the memory test...

Now I just have to fig out when I am OCing.. why is my Raid 0 not performaing at par....
