The multis work. You may be thinking of the AV8.

I use it to move the FSB (HTT). When I'm benching, I change it quite often in between runs.

Reading the XS forums can be a bad thing. So many people pissing on the A8V.

I hope it's not THAT bad. Sierra, you and several others seem to have had good results. At least you guys counter balance the negative posts. Geez.

What are all those people doing wrong or is the board really that screwy?

Hey :Popcorn. Yeah, that's a pretty depressing thread. But the main dissenter is someone who doesn't even have a 939 rig.

I think the people who were expecting monster clocks are being let down the most. But an FX53 at 2.6GHz is faster than a lot of P4's running over 4GHz. I've had several conversations with Shamino, someone I really respect. He has probably the most awesome P4EE and cascade cooling system I've ever seen. He's also at the top of the ORB. But even he is impressed with A64/X800XT performance. That says a lot more to me then some of the yahoo's who look for any excuse to flame.

Don't listen to em. Especially that yahoo Sierra is talking about.

I like the Asus A8V alot. With the Beta BIOS the board does everything I want it too. I'm not shooting for the top of the ORB or anything, just looking for a 24/7 stable high end gaming rig.

I let my P4EE @ 4.2Ghz go to get this system....and it was worth it. This system is simply faster (given no volt mods or super tweaks to either system).

I think this fits the bill (A8V, FX-53, X800 Pro, 1Gig XMS XL):

No volt mods, No OS tweaks. A real daily rig, not a bench rig. Nuff said.

Now, if I only had an X800 XT

mdzcpa, nice to see you back at ABX. I'm not shooting for the top of the ORB either, especially with my cooling set-up. lol. I'm trying to get the most out of my rig that's humanly possible.

Thanks for the warm welcome

I don't post here as much anymore, but I always come to read. There's so much good info here at abx.

Sorry about loosing my cool on XS. Man, the StormPC has a problem and I let him get to me. I've never seen so much whining from an armchair quarterback overclocker. Oh well, at least it seems like he impresses himself, so I suppose its all good

Anyway, anytime you'd like to compare notes, let me know. I'll continue to follow this thread.

Sierra,
Yeah, that's cool to hear shamino feels that way. I'm completely stoked about getting an FX-53 setup. If I can get near or over 30k, I'll be extremely happy. Your results really made me sit up & take notice. Thats when I really started wanting one. It's so hard for me to part with my 2.4c@3.6 though, she's running like a dream. My room mate is really excited to be gettin her though. So I'll still get to see her from time to time...lol!

mdzcpa,
Beautiful bro, nice work. Your words sum up 110% what I want out of my rig. Your attitude and goals with your set up represent mine exactly. Thank you for the benchmarks pix.

You guys have put my mind at ease.

So here's my rig:
Water Cooled
FX-53
1 GB OCZ 3700 EB (almost got the Corsair XL, really hard call for me)
ATI X800 Pro Clocked at 540/1100
Asus A8V
74 GB Raptor WD HDrive
Audigy 2 ZS
Antec Total Control 550 PSU

Think this will reach 30k?

mdzcpa, don't worry about losing your cool. Some of the arguments at XS are better than watching pro wrestling on TV. lol. I think Storm gets caught up in justifying his decision to use a 3700+. He also likes to stir things up.

I don't even bother to read the arguments and I could care less about the orb, but I am a stickler for quality and quality control and whereas sierra and mdz and some others have been lucky so far, there are many more issues with the entire 939 line than there have been in any recent platform release that I can remember.

More issues than Prescott? SiS? Or go over to one of the nForce2 forums and read all the horror stories. Like it or not, 939 is going to be around for awhile. And when AMD moves to the 90nm core, the only thing the 754 folks are going to be seeing are the tail lights of 939 rigs.

Seriously, I think you've had some bad luck. And as you mentioned earlier, motherboard quality is not what it used to be. Some people, for instance, rave about their DFI boards. But I've also read plenty of stories about shoddy workmanship. Not sure what to tell you. There's always Apple and Dell.
