It's not just bad luck IMO, though I can't speak for the A8V. I have experienced pretty much the same issues with the AV8 that xgman has. Strange temperature reporting issues, the stupid lack of multiplier options, etc.. It seems like of the 3 boards you can get right now there are none that don't have some sort of problem or caveat. Kinda disappointing... At least my first canterwood board, a rev 205 D875PBZ, worked OK out of the box and didn't freak out on temperatures, etc..

I can only speak from personal experience. I've had one board, the A8V, and it's been fine. Also keep in mind that xgman has been trying to volt-mod his boards. As I've said a few times already, the only thing I wish for right now is more VDimm. With a little more voltage to my RAM, I should be able to run over 2.7GHz stable 24/7.

Seriously, I think you've had some bad luck. And as you mentioned earlier, motherboard quality is not what it used to be. Some people, for instance, rave about their DFI boards. But I've also read plenty of stories about shoddy workmanship. Not sure what to tell you. There's always Apple and Dell.

Yes more issues. I stand by that statement and I have some folks who agree, but, now that I figured out the problem with the asus ddr voltage needing to be set to auto, I can at least run the board with locks and above 240 ddr400 sync at 1T. Pheeww . . sure took long enough to figure this out. I had the htt at 300 at one point with dividers. So now I need to try the ocz booster and se if that fixes the voltage issue. By the way I am sticking with 1005.020 over 021 till the new one is modded.

and so I don't sound like a disgruntled nut, I got some agreement onm the gigabyte too:

"Reading this thread, some people may get impression that A8V is a bad board. But my experience using this board is so much better than using Gigabyte nF3 board. Giga is very unstable for me - keep crashing sudddenly even at stock speed. I have to concur with xgman on this one"

Thankyou, whoever this was.

I do wonder why you don't have the issue with the ddr voltage that I and several others are seing. I mena you and I are using the same 3700eb, so why do we have to set to auto to not freeze? Anyway I may join your club soon. I actually think this board might be pretty decent in a half *** sort of way.

At least you haven't lost your sense of humor. That's very strange about having to run DDR voltage on auto.

Don't know if I told you, but I had to RMA the 2X512 sticks. I was getting some sort of corruption. Never had that problem before with RAM. But the 2X256 sticks are performing well. I can bench with them at 252-253.

I am afraid to run windiag/memtest on any of my new ram. I can't take any more dissapointment. It might send me over the edge.

Do you think I am better off using pci sata card (silicon image) or the via onboard sata NON raid either way.

I've been using a PCI SATA card since day one. I liked it on the SK8V, so I decided to stay with it on the A8V.

I've been using a pci card since before sk8v and only tried the onboard ones on the a8v as a last resort before I knew the problem with the voltage. With locks, maybe it's ok, but I always liked silicon image better than via or promise.

Those settings are very similar to what I'm using. The 10.5 multi has proven to be the best for me. Allows me to crank up the RAM to 252-253 and still have decent CPU speed. Now, if I could get my RAM stable at 260 with the same multi, I'd be at 2730MHz. 265 would put me at 2780MHz. I think going above 2800 might require more extreme cooling.

After what I been through lately, I'll be happy if this is all I can get. Even at stock speed I haven't had this much up time since I sold my sk8v. Now if the damm Comp USA would get some 6800 ultras in stock . . . . .

Sounds like another 1-2 weeks for the 6800U based on the pre-orders at other resellers.
