Have you done a comparison with your X800Pro?

Not directly, as in swapping the X800 into my FX53 rig, no. But I can tell you that the X800 PRO handles the game just fine in a P4 system. It doesn't like the higher rez's as much as the 16 Pipe GT (no surprise), but at 800x600 & 1024x768, it performs very, very well. Not near as bad as some reviews would have had you believe. The X800 Pro impressed me and I'm quite stunned at how well it looks and runs, very smooth. But the IQ and rendering power of the 6800 really shines in Doom, again no big surprise there.

However, I'm most certain that the XT PE will handle the game without a problem and may infact end up being near as fast or faster with forthcoming drivers. I'm still ****** that I could not get an XT PE earlier in the summer and it wasn't from a lack of trying either. But now considering how happy I am with the 6800 GT, I'm holding out for the next round of cards this Fall. The only thing that could change that is if nvidia just runs Halflife 2 like total ***, then I will be tracking down an XT PE.

Yes, I'm surprised the X800XT is not more readily available by now. As you know, I tested a 6800U. For my purposes (i.e. benchmarking), the X800XT is the better card.

BTW, someone is loaning me a Mach II phase change system. Should be fun.

Well, I've come this far. Extreme cooling is the next logical step.

excellent! I knew they would have something coming. Again, I really am enjoying this GT but, ATI is still King in my book, It's all in how Nvidia follow up the 6800's, IMHO. They need more clock speed, pure and simple. It will be interesting times between now and Spring on the Video Card front.

Like it or not, now that Doom 3 is out the quest is on for ultimate DOOM Card. I think both companies aim to put out a Doom 3 Killer card for bragging rights. I have a feeling we are going to be the big winner in this next round.

I may be wrong, but that's what I'm thinking anyway.

Ok, on my X800 Pro/P4 system, this driver increased the Doom 3 timedemo score from 60.1 to 70.6.

10 FPS, that's a nice bump and the gameplay is much smoother. GJ ATI.

lol, you're not far off from the truth.

I finally slept last night, I just fell over exhausted @ midnight from about 2 days of playing with very little sleep and woke up this morning slumped over on the sofa. The best time to play the game is late at night, when you're alone in the dark. It scares the bejesus out of me. What I like about the game is how it just keeps pushing you on, even though you're scared to see what's around the corner, you must see it! You're compelled to look. It's sick.

Heh, maybe I'll give it a try sometime. As you probably know, I'm not much of a gamer.

I bought the OCZ VDimm booster. Haven't used it yet. I heard it doesn't work too well on the A8V. I can always use it on another system. Would be nice to run the EB at 3.0-3.1v.

I think Doom 3 can be enjoyed by non gamers a lot. It's pretty straight forward and it delivers top notch gameplay. It's very cinematic in it's presentation and with a system like yours, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It will run like a dream on your setup.

Also, the timedemo benchmark included is nice and will be used by many review sites. It's a good stress test if nothing else.

And yes, I could use more vdimm voltage myself. Too bad that booster doesn't work so well for the A8V. Maybe OCZ can tweak it in future revisions to play nice with our board.

try it in slot 3 (ram in 2 & 4) and see if you can get over 2.85v. Make sure you have a fan above it though.
