Well, I think the slot was already half-dead when I got the board. Should have the new board by mid-week. Not going to be able to do much with it anyway til the weekend. Too busy at work.

i can imagine that after the first day the lead time will be a lot more than 2 weeks.

Hynix RAM

For anyone using Hynix ram, such as OCZ 3700 Gold rev 3.

I originally had some in my system, working fine, no problems. The other day I went to put it back in, after clearing cmos, seting jumper to 3.3v for vdimm etc. I couldn't get the system to run stably at anything above default, even with going back to the original bios, so took it out. I've had more time today, so I looked into it more thoroughly.

Starting up A64tweaker, I noticed that 'Max Async Lat' had been set to 5ns (auto in bios). Moved this to 7ns, and was able to go to 260htt! Altered in bios to confirm, and all OK!

So the next question is, why have I got two sets of RAM that crap out at 260htt? I then tried the hynix 2T, because I knew it had done 270+ on Asus A8N. No difference! At all! I've had the htt up to 360 with a divider, so know thats not limiting me. Memory controller on my winnie?

Anyone experience weird temps between different cpus ? I tried several remounts and this is what i get

now i swapped to 3500+ 0441 TPAW and cpu temps are high again even after 6 remounts!

3200+ CBBHD 0450 UPJW
@2700mhz at ~1.6v
CPU idle = 41-43C
CPU load = 51-56C

3200+ CBBHD 0445 VPMW
@2700mhz at ~1.6v
CPU idle = 31-33C
CPU load = 41-46C

3500+ CBBFD 0441 TPAW
@2700mhz at ~1.6v
CPU idle = 38-43C
CPU load = 51-57C

cooled by MCW6002 + MCP650 + MCP600 in series with Thermochill 120.3 with 3x 120x38mm Panaflo 103cfm fans

room temp 29-33C

Glorfy,

Some of the BIOS versions will give you more aggressive timings at default. Even if you have everything set to Auto, you'll notice some of the secondary timings have changed.

The board may not like your RAM. That's always a possibility, though 260 is nothing to be ashamed of. I think some BIOS versions are optimized for certain types of memory. The only RAM I've seen that performs well on just about every A64 board is BH-5. Of course you won't get the same HTT as TCCD-based modules. But I prefer tight timings with reasonably high HTT.

Max async Lat for my BH5 is set to 7ns by default, so not sure why it changes for hynix Anyway, the point was to highlight it to anyone that is having trouble with hynix I'm happy with 260 on both sets - but think it seems odd that they both top out at the same point, so wonder if its a limit imposed by something other than the memory. I have a 130nm 3500+, I may pop that in and see how it goes!

It depends on what multiplier you're using. If you're using a higher multi, it could be that your CPU is maxxed out at 260.

In order to get very high clocks on Hynix chips, you generally need to use 3-4-4-8 timings.

CPU maxes out at 2664-2740 depending how stable I want it With a 10X multiplier 260htt is as high as I can go 1:1, so I run with X11 multi and 240-248htt.

I cant help but get a smile on my face when i read this thread. I was the proud owner.. still am actually of the 875p DFI Lanparty board (Intel I know).
I had massive problems trying to do anything with this board. I couldnt even OC a 2.8 past 228 without BSOD and no posts. I left the sucker at default for ages. One night while I was drinking.. I decided to try overclocking again (keep in mind, one wrong setting would result in me having to clear the bios) and BAM! All of a sudden its hitting 260 stable with no issues at all.. talk about burn in time. Nothing had changed with my system at all in that month period.. Still running to this day stable as a rock. Hopefully.. this is whats going on with the A64 boards. Minus the TCCD issue. Sucks cause i was looking into some PQi memory (heard good things). Anyway.. Probably way off topic.

*Edit* Sig is wrong.. been a while since Ive been here.

If you take the same CPU and seat it 3 different times you will get 3 different sets of temps.

Just got my new board (Ultra-D). It doesn't come with all the extras that the SLI-DR has. But I didn't need that stuff anyway. I'm toying with the idea of just running it in my Lian-Li case, and using my old Neo2 and X800XT for occasional benching. Probably won't be able to test the news board until tomorrow or the weekend. Work is consuming too much of my time.
