Yes, there's always a danger in being an early adapter. Just call me human guinea pig. LOL.

BTW, I meant to say 1.5-2-2-5. I can't even read my own screenshot.

I think I got a new batch! Mine says MG291-1, whereas all I've seen so far is MG291. For owner of same model as mine, look on the inner box and on the right side of the opening flap (or whatever you call it), you will notice this BIG BOLD LABEL "MG291", mine actually says, "MG291-1". But! Who knows, could be something I don't even know, not to mention that it may not even be a batch label.

DFI has a reputation of not having the best quality control. I remember people raving about their NF2 LanParty boards, after they RMA'ed the first two or three. All I can say is that the board I have now is great for top speed. I'm a very happy camper.

VX Memory and active cooling

Sierra----since the vx memory is made for high voltage----does it still require active cooling??

If I went that route----could I get away with no or a small active cooling fan at say DDR 500 and 2,2,2,6 timings???

Blue----why not good gaming memory????

Great bandwith----great framerates, made to run at higher voltages already so I assume much more heat tolerable.

Why would this not be perfect RAM for a gamer???? (Besides being a big chunk of change!)

Thanks, John

The reason for active cooling is to keep both the mosfets and the RAM cool. If you enable the 4v option, this will make the mosfets run even hotter. Your other option is to keep the VDimm jumper in the standard position and tweak the PSU's 3.3v line. I think running 3.2v in BIOS and raising the 3.3v rail to 3.5-3.6v would give you VDimm of around 3.3v. That might be enough to get DDR500.

The other key is timings. Someone from OCZ had these suggested timings for VX.

Fx-55

Besides being a HUGE amount of money!!!!

What are the downsides of getting an FX-55 new from Newegg or Game VE right now.

If this is going to turn out to be my everyday rig-----replacing my beloved IC7 and a 3.2 Northwood at 3.75--------might as well go for the gusto....

In for a penny----in for a pound....

What should I expect (ballpark figures) overclocking wise with a good PSU (PowerStream 520) Good memory (BH-5) and a Themalright xp-120 with a good 120 x 38 Panaflo.

Are the new batch really that bad overclockers??

I thought chips did better over time.....refinement processes get better, etc.

Thanks----John

Of course-----the mosfets-----I keep thinking only in terms of the RAM....

Why do you think Blue doesn't think the vx memory is good for gaming???

I think he's tried three pairs of VX. Sometimes RAM will be great for overclocking, but not so good for gaming. Freeze-ups, reboots, etc. I'm not into gaming, so I wouldn't know.

Regarding the mosfets, they do get very hot, which is why they have those big heatsinks on them.

Hello, Im having the same problem sierra had where I can't boot from the first pci-e slot, but I can from the second. I need to get this fixed. I flashed my bios to the 2/09 beta from xtreme systems forum and it didn't fix my problem. I still cant boot from first slot, and I am getting worried that I won't be able to fix this.

Please help if you have any ideas. Btw I am running a DFI NF4 SLI-DR and a BFG 6800 ultra and my jumpers are set correctly to single vga. Im gonna try flashing to other bios versions to see if it fixes the problem, but I don't have a lot of faith in it working =(. Are there any bios settings that might make it work?

PLEASE HELP! I don't wanna scrap this build cause of this one dumb slot.

Thank you to anyone who has any ideas, I appreciate it even if it doesn't work.

Welcome to ABX, Mega-Hurtz. I wish I had an answer for you. I had trouble booting from the first slot on the SLI-DR when I first got that board. Problem eventually went away. But couldn't boot at all from that slot after I hooked up a phase change cooler to the graphics card. I eventually gave up and RMA'd the board. Haven't had any problems with the Ultra-D.

Can someone explain to me whgat the advantage of this is? ( http://xtremeresources.com/modules.p...rder=0&thold=0 )

The htt is high but all the benches are low with the divider? Why bother then? Seems like it's going 200 mph but the wheels aren't fully making contact with the ground, or am I missing something?

Go back a few pages in this thread and you'll find that Blue and I had a discussion about MrIcee's benches. I think he was just testing the board's stability limits. It should be pointed out that Randi also knows how to get the most CPU speed out of the chips he owns.
