| K8N-E/Realtek ALC850 Problems I installed XP Pro SP2 edition on a new ASUS K8N-E (3400+ A64) with the latest drivers and even flashed to latest bios but I still keep getting random blue screens. The minidump all pretty much look like below and seems has to do with the Realtek audio. Anyone ever see this with the Realtek alc850, XP SP2 or K8N chipset? thx -- Mogh Windows XP Kernel Version 2600 (Service Pack 2) UP Free x86 compatible Kernel base = 0x804d7000 PsLoadedModuleList = 0x805531a0 start end module name 804d7000 806cd280 nt Checksum: 001FB94E Timestamp: Wed Aug 04 01 58:36 2004 (41107B0C) Unloaded modules: ebd61000 ebd8b000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) ec62c000 ec656000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) ec62c000 ec656000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) ed2b1000 ed2db000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) ee3cd000 ee3f7000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f8d3a000 f8d3b000 drmkaud.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) ee3f7000 ee41a000 aec.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f7643000 f7650000 DMusic.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f7653000 f7661000 swmidi.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f8bdd000 f8bdf000 splitter.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f89e5000 f89ea000 Cdaudio.SYS Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f65e7000 f65ea000 Sfloppy.SYS Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) |

| Did you get the Realtek driver from the Asus website? I noticed the latest one on the site is version 3.61 which came out several months ago. There's an updated driver (3.67) that was released earlier this month. Link |

Even if it is a driver problem that can be fixed I think I will buy a Audigy for sound since no matter how well I tweak the sound on the motherboard it sounds pretty cheap compared to the SB Live that I own.

| Yes, Realtek is not the greatest. Do you still get blue screens if you disable audio in the BIOS? |

I am going to install the Audigy2 and turn off the realtek audio on the new motherboard to see what happens.

| Turns out it does it with the Audigy2 also. So now new motherboard and new sound card but same blue screen. The RAM I selected is on the certified list right from the Asus manual but since I tried either stick separately I think it is unlikely both sticks are bad. | Update: Although not ideal turning DEP off in the boot.ini solved my BDOD issue. It seems this is an XP SP2 DEP nvidia driver related. |
