| K8T800 chipset Is an AMD motherboard with the VIA K8T800 chipset any good or not. I'm considering if I do build an AMD64 based system getting one of those, or one with an NFORCE 3 chipset.

| At stock speeds, boards with the VIA chipset should be fine. For overclocking I'd recommend NF3. People have gotten higher RAM speeds with the Nvidia-based boards. |

| I'm not intending to overclock. After taking a quick look at the beginning of the thread socket 939 is the way to go. I might have to get the motherboard first and then the cpu. Right now only way I can do it. I sucks, I know, but what choice do I have, as in about 3 months, I'll have to be getting a flat panel lcd monitor. Not sure how fast of a cpu yet, might start out with the 3000+ and then upgrade later on.

| I might be inclined to skip the VIA chipset boards, and get an NFORCE3 board, and two of the boards are NFORCE3 boards.

| I think I'm gonna get the ASUS A8V Deluxe motherboard. Read a lot of great reviews of the board.

| Gonna email or call Newegg before I order the A8V Deluxe to find out what bios is on the board. Then when I get the cpu, then I can depending on what bios is on it, possibly go for a faster cpu, than either the AMD Athlon 64 2800+ or the 3000+.

| i am trying monarchcomputer.com for my order. if you use their config tool to 'build' your system you can pick your mobo and processor and they will put it together and make sure it all works and is updated before they ship to you.

| The 2800+ is a Socket 754 chip. The 3000+ is the lowest 939 chip available right now. There's also a Socket 754 3000+. |

| You're right, I'll order the board first, and hopefully I can get that done this week, and then I'll order the cpu next. Can olny afford to get the motherboard and the cpu, a thing at a time. Most likely will get a 3000+ to start when it comes time to order the cpu.

I just got the Gigabyte K8NS Pro 2 weeka ago, it seems to be perfict in every way. Overclocks, crunches video with no hitches, just does everything like it''s supposed to. My only gripe is the location of the chipset, rite inline with the AGP port! No watercooling block for the northbridge on this board, although I havent ran into any problems with overclocking because of it, as there is a fan on the stock chipset heatsink. I have no insight to offer on the MSI Boards. Hope this helps. | |
