I would contact ASUS asap about this and demand that they replace it. This is BS. I don't think I have heard of one succesful flash on a K8V SE Deluxe thus far. I'm not for the life of me going to flash this board. Also, I would maybe say F this, and go with a nForce3 mobo. Goodluck man, I'm sorry this crap has kept happening to you.

What method did you use? Off the internet or with a floppy or from your hdd. Yes I have noted that this particular board is hassle when it comes to bios flashing. Personally I never recommend using internet to flash. Anyone ever tried to hot flash this type of bios?

I´ve used the Asus update tool and had a couple of corrupted flashes with the K8V SEDX.Always got it to flash properly the second time.
Just pull the battery if nothing else works. Can´t recomend their latest Bios 1004 though since it seems to degrade the performance a bit.Went from 21100 (Bios 1003) something to 20700 3Dmark 2001 after repeted tests.

K8V Deluxe SE bad BIOS Chips!

Hi cbacba

Sorry to hear that you are having so many problems with your board and what appears to be yet another customer who apparently has gotten a BAD BIOS chip on his board....In the ASUS Sub-Forum at the VIA Forums there are tooooo many folks who have flashed their "SE" BIOS only to have discovered that the machine would not post afterward. As I say at that Forum ..Contact ASUS Tech Support and speak to a supervisor if need be and let them know what happened and don't give up until you get ASUS to send you a new chip pre-flashed to the latest BIOS version for FREE!

Let them know that you are aware of this widespread problem and that it is a serious customer issue similar to the bad capacitors that afouled a few of the original K8V Deluxe Boards.....

A couple of the posters at the Via Forum reported back that they were sucessfull in getting ASUS to send them a replacement chip FREE of CHARGE!
Others tried but apparently were not so convincing and either bought a new BIOS chip from ASUS or bought one from www.badflash.com

As far as flashing your BIOS I highly recommend to d/l the BIOS file first to your hard drive then use the ASUS Update application to flash from a file. In the options you can also set it to downgrade your BIOS as well.

Another smart thing to do is check-out the BIOS first using your FTP client to ascertain that indeed you have the correct BIOS for your board. Sometimes the ASUS Update gives bad info and displays BIOS's for the K8V Deluxe SE for the K8V Deluxe (original) and visa versa so be careful !

As you SEE from this FTP logon there are several K8V types and for the uninformed if you flash the wrong BIOS you could kill your machine as well

Good Luck and please post back on what ASUS Tech support told you

Saphire

Perhaps using wrong filename

Something I noticed with the manual versus the downloadable BIOS filename.

The BIOS filename is K8VSEDX.004

BUT the manual says to type afudos /i<SourceFilename.Destination Filename>

What is unclear is whether you need to type (1) afudos /ik8VSEDX.004 OR (2) afudos /ik8VSEDX.ROM

Which is correct?

Cheers

Look in your manual again....especially at the pics of the BIOS. You will see that after the command prompt, it says A:\>afudos /iK8VSEDX.ROM

So there is your answer.
