| YES! 1. Is the fan on your cpu heatsink running? 2. What are your case temps? 3. Is this figure with the cpu under load (running a benchmark tool for example)? 4. How are you measuring this?

| And turn it off until you diagnose why you are getting these readings. If they are real, your cpu can fry at those temps. |

| Did you place the HSF on backward?? It has been known to happen. If the fan is running the only other explanation is the HSF is cocked, not sitting down flat on the CPU. IF you used a thermal paste, the imprint of the CPU will be outlined perfectly on the heatsink. If it isn't, the HSF is crooked. Reseat it and try again. | yes, towards the sink. 40C, a bit high. Add some case fans. Is this a Palamino core?? They do tend to run hot, but not that hot. Like I said, check the HSF mounting. I lap the bottoms of all HSF before I use them. I have seen to many that aren't really flat. |

| What HSF do you have??? And yes, your case temp is high, mine is about 20C. You need more/better fans - a new case, or some modding.

| Typically, Athlons run in the 40-50C range. They can survive up to 90C though. It's probably that the corner of your HSF is contacting the top of the socket ledge, meaning that only a small fraction of the heatsink is actually touching the CPU. Make doubly sure it is on correctly and make sure you use a good thermal interface. So if you initially used a thermal pad, don't reuse it, get some heatsink compound to replace it.

| If that is idle, it is not fixed. If any load is placed on it at all, you will have thermal meltdown with temps like that. Again, what heatsink are you using?
