| will any current i7 motherboard be Gulftown capable with a BIOS update? even though I don't need to upgrade...and I'm probably not going to see any major performance improvements...but I'm getting the itch 2 things which are pushing me: -i5 has no upgrade path so you're stuck with it (no matter how great it turns out be) -if all i7 Gulftown needs is a BIOS update with current boards then I can easily pop in a new 32nm chip a year from now (future upgradeability is a big deal to me) getting an i7 now seems about as future-proof as one can get in these days when technology is rapidly evolving

Actually if I bet on longivity it would be LGA1156 as far a sockets go. Intel has split down two new desktop socket paths so they should both be available for around 5yrs. The high end chipset get replaced/discontinued and therefore lose BIOS support. For example, BADAXE1/2, X48 are gone but P965 lives on because it is %99 of sales (mainstream). The P55/57 chipset will be around for a long time and they to will run chips next year on 32nm. Anyhoo, I use to get the top of the line but am more satisfied with mainstream now. The cool chipsets and all just let your system run better and longer IMO. They are also less costly and easy to get. | |

| Re: AnandTech Article - New Intel CPU's and chipsets coming! More news about Braidwood turbo memory support. Fudzilla - Intel compares Braidwood performance with SSD I plan on getting a 16GB flash card from Intel. Lynnfield may not be as fast at stock as higher clocked tripple channel X58 setups but if it does 3.6GHz on single apps (majority of tasks) along with this Braidwood tech. then you will have a very smooth overall computer experience. Now if the P57 will later support 32nm chips which I am sure it will then this will be an excellent mainstream system. The P57 is a ways off and may even come with USB3.0 and/or SATA3. I know it will have 12-14 USB ports though. |

| Re: AnandTech Article - New Intel CPU's and chipsets coming! Hi guys. I'm back. Sorry, due to negligence on my behalf I completely forgot about this site. Thanks to Sandog's friend request however, I remembered ABXZone. I'm gonna do a post about Lynnfield and its mobile variant, Clarksfield, in a few mins. BTW, I'm using a X25-M SSD now. |

| Re: AnandTech Article - New Intel CPU's and chipsets coming! So is the P57 chipset and Braidwood tech really being shelved? I was holding out for this as my next build which is long overdue. Braidwood memory tech is gone

| Re: AnandTech Article - New Intel CPU's and chipsets coming! I could care less about P55/Lynnfield although it will be a great chipset/CPU. I am very satisfied with this X58 plus i7-920. It is so fast I don't think I need an SSD really. I run min. 3.33 to max. 3.65GHz depending on Turbo. CPU runs cool as well as the mobo. I mentioned before that I got my mobo, i7-920, and Corsair 3x2GB 1600 CL7 Dominators for the same price as a Lynnfield 3GHz CPU ($570.00). If somebody gave me a i7-975 I would sell it and keep my i7-920. I highly recommend getting this setup. With X58 you get more RAM and more CPU bandwidth and I bet you can setup a system for the same and even lower cost than a P55 if you try. Also the X58 is true 2x16PCIe whereas the P55 is 1x16, 1x8PCIe for Crossfire/SLI. The current Lynnfields might be equal or a little better in performance at equal clocks to Bloomfield but Intel will be coming out with 32nm CPU's for X58 next year and those should definitely put the X58 back on top again. |

| Re: AnandTech Article - New Intel CPU's and chipsets coming! In general I consider the X58 a better platform, but there is one Lynnfield processor that really caught my eye. The Intel Xeon 1.86Ghz L3246. Quad core, HT enabled with 8 MB L3. Two cores can ratchet up to 3.2GHz All within 45W TDP!!! This seems like the perfect do-everything solution. Rendering... you have your four cores. Gaming ... a snappy 3.2GHz on two. Quiet HTPC system.... hey not hard to cool 45W Business Reliability... ECC support Budget... $284 (US) For those who don't need two PCI express X16 graphics channels, this would be the way to go. I'm currently happy on a 17" monitor running a 7600 GS. I don't believe that taxes the bandwidth on the connection, and if I wanted to upgrade my graphics, I would probably go to a single 8800GT. Opinions?
