| Asus CUSL2 mobo problem hi, Since I have bought this mobo almost 1 year ago, I have had intermitant problems. In Windows 2K (with SP1 or SP2), whenever I try to load an .exe program, the system will lock up (cannot press ctrl-alt-del, mouse pointer freeze, sound freezes (repeats itself like a broken record), basically everything freezes) I have determined it is NOT a memory problem, NOT a video problem, NOT a hard disk problem, so I guess it is a mobo hardware problem. My initial trouble shooting points to some kind of Hard disk Controller failure. (Primary Master controller) Upon reset, CHKDSK is automatically run, with "First Allocation unit of <program> is not valid" error. It suggests some sort of corruption in the files. (this only occurs when the system locks up) I have formatted the hard disk 3 times and reloaded Win2K with the same problem still exists. CHKDSK and SCANDISK reveals NO problem with the hard disk. Is there anything else I missed out that will help me in solving the problem other than returning this mobo back? regards, Xt. |

| Hi Xt I had virtually the same problem with my first CUSL2-C and it turned out to be a bad controller...I exchanged the board and never had another problem...Hope this helps

| This may be a little off topic but on my old P2B mobo and an Seagate 7200rpm ATA33 HD, there was a known problem where if the IDE connector to the HD was NOT on the shortest route, then I would get all sorts of errors. I was airing out my system and I assumed that reconnecting my HD to the longer [2nd on the cable] connector would work. I got all sorts of corrupted data and system freezes. Simply reconnecting the HD back to the shortest route solved all the problems.

| milesc3, can you describe your real problem you had with that mobo please? racemann, if you are talking about the shoutest route via the cable, i've done that! Update: I have concluded that my video card (Diamond Viper V550 16MB AGP with nVidia TNT chipset & latest drivers) is NOT compatible with the Asus CUSL2 mobo. Why am I saying this? Because I replace that card for a Intel i740 8MB AGP video and there were no more crashes (well running for 3 hours didnt cause any crashes on my system). The Diamond Viper V550 is NOT faulty, since I had no crashes on my other P3 setup with Win2K but a BX mobo. As soon as I replaced the Intel i740 video with my Diamond Viper, it crashed straight away!!! Does anyone else compatiblity issues with the TNT and Asus Cusl2? -Xt. |
