| I know this motherboard (Asus Motherboard P2B-DS) supports RAM of PC100, but would it take the PC133 too? |

| You can use PC133 memory on the board. Official top for this mobo is the PIII 600MHz 512kb, but you can also run the coppermines with a sloket set to 1.8v. Have to be the 100 MHz coppermines. e.

| There is a 100MHz FSB for a Slot I PIII 1Ghz CPU. It is slightly more expensive than the Flip Chip, however it will allow you to reach 1Ghz on your current machine. Remember you need a 1Ghz Slot 1 CPU with the 100Mhz front side bus! You can find one here for 210 dollars. http://www.googlegear.com/ggweb/jsp/...ductCode=80607 Last edited by DaveM; 10-08-2001 at 02:23 AM.. |

| I doubt that the p2b will recognise the slot one 1 gig cpu because of voltage concerns; the Cc0 runs at 1.70 and the Cd0 at 1.75; it all depends upon which voltage regulator the board is running. The normal p2b voltage regulator will only recognise cpu's which use 1.8v or higher. That is why a slocket with regulatable voltage and a flipchip are the way to extend this board's usefullenss and shelf-life. Look at the voltage regulator chip towards the rear of the board from the CPU, it is USUALLY a Harris chip (large "H" logo on it). If the part number ends in BCB, it's a violtage chip which will go down to 1.3 volt, anything else (just CB, for example) it's the 1.8 volt chip. This will determine whether you can run a *slot one* 100Mhz cpu. Many folks are running a Pentium III 850 FCPGA 100Mhz chip with slocket and voltage set to 1.8 on any of the P2b boards. Before you go ahead and buy a 1gb slot one, check with this newsgroup: alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus and ask if anyone has successfully set this up. You can most definitely use a flip chip and a slocket. Right now I have a computer running a Cc0 celeron II 600 with a slocket at 1008Mhz. Not bad for a dead chipset (the BX). e
