| Weird Coincidence, I just bougt a 64mb Pen drive from Ebay for £20, I can get my P4C800 to try and boot from it, but Im having issues actually getting it to recognise any system on it. You cant format it as an MSDOS boot disk in XP(Thinks its a Removable Hard drive). I have copied bootable floppys to it but it still fails with unkown sysetm on boot. Any help ?? aNaBolic

| Just a guess, but "if" it is possible...my guess is there is a BIOS setting that needs to be set to fix it and get it working. |

| It's my understanding that the Phoenix BIOS boards (ASUS) cannot boot from a USB device, but the Award BIOS boards (ABIT) can. Please correct me if I am wrong. |

| Hi! I could make 3 USB memory keys bootable from DOS. You need some weird procedures like below. 1. Prepare a USB memory key and a DOS bootable floppy diskette. (note: The DOS bootable floppy diskette must be a one that can use "format /s" command. A WinME system disk can't do this.) 2. Insert a USB memory key and a DOS bootable floppy diskette, and boot. 3. Enter the BIOS setup. 4. Go to "Advanced">"USB Configuration">"USB Mass Storage Device Configuration" section, and set your USB memory key's "Emulation Type" to "Hard Disk". 5. Go to "Exit" and "Exit & Save". 6. Boot from the DOS bootable floppy diskette, and format /s your USB memory key. (note: Be sure to check the drive letter assigned to your USB memory key before formatting.) 7. Reboot and enter the BIOS setup. 8. Go to "Boot">"Removale Drives", and set the "1st Drive" to "[your USB memory key]. 9. Go to "Exit" and "Exit & Save". 10. Remove the DOS bootable floppy diskette and reboot. That's all. Check if it works. Good luck! |

| Whoops, I missed one thiing... This could be done with P4C800 with AMI BIOS. Perhaps most motherboards with Award BIOS can't boot from a USB device. |

| I did about the same thing, but left the USB config for the Pen drive at Auto, which treats anything below 520M as a floppy. Then boot off a 98 floppy, and do a SYS B:. The BIOS assigned it drive b: Too bad the F8 popup menu won't let you choose between multiple Removable devices. Everytime you remove the key, you have to go back into the Bios to configure the pen drive as the first removable device. I'm also using the P4C800 - for now. Don't know if it can be done with the Award/Phoenix used in the IC7(-G), but I hope so.

| I GOT IT TO WORK!!! On the IC7, I set the boot order to "USB-ZIP" and my USB pen drive booted right up. I've got a 64MB "Pen Drive Plus 2.0". I copied the files from a boot floppy to it, then booted from a Win98 floppy and ran a "Sys B:". Rebooted and tried every boot option. Booted from USB after setting to "USB-ZIP". Its fairly fast and is much bigger than a floppy. I copied all my DOS utlilties to it, like Paragon Partition Manager and some other stuff. To create your own Bootable USB drive, Just go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and download the Win98SE image, then create a floppy. Copy the contents of the disk to the USB drive in Windows, then boot up with the floppy and type "SYS B:". I'm still iffy about running a bios flash from this though....anyone have the balls to try it? Cheers

Does the IC7 have a boot menu you can select during boot? On the P4C800, you can hit F8 during boot, and it will let you pick between 3 devices to use for that boot. The older Asus boards with Award could do it too, just hit Esc several times during POST.

| Don't have my board set up yet, but do you think this procedure would work with a USB CF/SD reader with a card inserted? Should be seen as another USB storage device, right? |
