| I recently received a used board and am trying to build on it . The only parts that I have so far are the usb riser? and serial riser? they came with the board.I most probably will ask quite a few questions when I start to really get involved in the next few weeks It will go in a older aopen case . I currently have a 2005 DELL Dimension and a 1999 IBM aptiva. I am also currently building on the Aptiva. Thanks for looking. Richard |

| The risers you refer to are for a modem and network adapter. You used to be able to download the CUSL2 manual from the Asus site. Failing that, try here! Thanks MONKEY HANGER The parts that I called risers may be called something else. They look like a PCI card with a pig tail to plug in elsewhere on the board an not the PCI slot. As I said i will most probably need help on this one. Thanks again

| here´s the manual: ftp://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/s...cusl2c-104.pdf as you noted, the "risers" you refered to are just optional I/O ports. the manual has info on where the headers (connectors) are located on the board.

| You want the board in "jumper-free" mode. Check the manual and set the dip switches accordingly. I would try setting the bios to it's factory default settings as a starting point. This can be done by removing the battery for a short period of time. (10-15 minutes or so) Make certain there is no power to the board before removing the battery. What brand of RAM have you installed? FYI...the CUSL2/CUSL2-C boards were known to be a little picky about RAM. These boards seem to prefer good name brand ram. (Mushkin, Crucial, etc.) |

| Thanks blt. The switches are set to jumper free. The memory is Crucial. I will remove the battery and see what happens. Will post back later possibly tonight.

| Obviously there's an issue with the floppy drive, cable, or it's controller. Since it seems to recognize your other hardware, I would try to get it to recognise the floppy drive properly by swapping out the drive and/or cable. Don't think the issue with the floppy would cause it to lock on the BIOS setup screen, but you can quickly test that by disconnecting the floppy cable from the board (the board should boot normally with no drives attached) and see if it still locks up at the BIOS setup screen. At any rate, should it be determined there's an issue with the BIOS itself and you wish to attempt flashing the BIOS as a possible (last resort) solution, you will need the floppy drive working properly. |

| Looks like you have the floppy cable "upside down"! Reverse the connector at the drive end. |

| Thanks for the replys. I have changed out the floppy drive and now it appears to boot without the floppy error. Still locks up after going into setup. Possibly the BIOS doesn,t recognise the CPU because sometimes it shows manual and other times it shows 566mhz Sometimes it starts at the main and sometimes at the advanced.
