Can you Mix Hard Drives as in one PATA and one SATA or is it one or the other but not both.......................

I allready have that manual and it doesn't mention if you can mix and match, but I got it to work. They way this board works is I had to pull the PATA, do a fresh os install on the SATA so by default it made the SATA Dive C. Then I renstalled the PATA, formatted the drive and everything works as it should.

The SATA drive was given to me by the IT guy at work. I was able to upgrade my aging compter from the stuff that the IT department was throwing out. It was nice of the company to put the IT dept. in the Avionics shop

Seems as if the auto detect was confused and or the SATA had to be enabled in the bios unless it was the first and only drive.

Where as the pata is std enabled and or auto detected on most MB.

I bought 500GB SATA HDs for les than $65. SO I can see why they might be giving used ones away.

When I first installed the SATA, I went right into The BIOS and it was there and when I booted to windows, I got a BSOD. So I figgerd if I pull the PATA and Installed XP on the SATA, it would take, and it did. I cross my fingas and hoped I didn't get a BSOD when I reconnected the PATA and I didn't. The intel manual isen't as well written as well as the ASUS boards that I'm used to. This is my First intel board that replaced my P4B533................

Sounds like you forgot to set the sata as the ist boot device rather than the pata.

If you ask yourself what where and why usually the answer to these questions will give you a course of action to your target objective.

No, that wasen't it as the PATA was set as the 1st bootable device as I wanted to format the SATA Drive in XP. The BSOD I was getting stated something to the effect that there was a Virus on the SATA Drive so I ended up doing a low level format on the SATA Drive and installed XP on it. I was expecting a BSOD when I reinstalled the PATA as I had XP on that drive too. When the computer booted into windows and showed the PATA as the F Drive I knew at that point I was in like Flint. I ended up formatting the PATA Drive to dump the OS and using it a back up Drive....................
