| So I originally thought the problem was coming from one of the 4 HDS72252VLAT80's, but with 7 HDD covering three makes as well as a DVDR its pretty easy to get confused. It turns out the problem is the Samsung SP1614N 160Gb IDE attatched to a Serillel on SYS181 (SATA3). When I swapped th Samsung which was on Sata 2 woth the 80Gb Sata Hitachi on Sata 3 I got a stable configuration. Funny thing is I had the Samsung there before the Hitachis were present woth no problem. A few other parts were swapped out since then as well. In my case anyway I think the problem occurs on the Sis Sata controllers when there are more drives present. So the problems solved for me (hopefully Thanks for this thread, you guys are the only ones on the web with solid onfo on this problem. - Meerkat |

| I really think this issue all boils down to a poor implementation of the ATA-133 standard. The other drives that most people have replaced with have all been ATA-100 drives, I believe. I think most ATA-133 drives will experience this problem on these specific motherboards until they come up with a bios that addresses the ATA-133 issues. EB

| You guys got me worried.... I bought the P4S800D-E Deluxe and ordered a set of Raptors (RAID-0 SATA), and I was considering a 300GB DiamondMax 10 SATA drive. Luckily for me, I have a nice nVidia card, so if the problem IS ATI-related, I shouldn't have a problem. I was just curious.... Is anyone having SATA problems w/ the new (DiamondMax 10) drives?? If so, is it an ATI problem or incompatibility of Maxtor, ASUS, and SiS? I have not had very good luck w/ Western Digital in the past, and I keep my computers on 24/7. My _only_ Maxtor failure was my fault (one of the solder joints of the PSU connector got pulled out), and they replaced the drive right away. Each hard disk has either its own very nice Vantec cooler or is placed in the bracket directly at the intake fans. (Lian Li case). I'm sure I don't abuse my drives. Any suggestions on a good, LARGE SATA drive would be appreciated. (I just hope the mobo can handle whatever RAID combo I can think up for the PATA slots Sorry for lengthening the thread Brian |

| I have the DiamondMax 10 SATA 300g on the 964 controller and 2 DiamondMax 9 120's on the 180 controller in raid 0. Other than ATTO shows low write speeds (see pic) I have no problems with it on this board. It has the os on 1 partition, with games on a small ptn and video/pics on large ptn,225g.. They have caused this sort of problem for me. If you uninstall them it makes no difference, you need to reinstall windows ![]()

| I had the same thing before the sis drivers were installed. That was why I tried them to see if it made any difference. It didn't. |

| hi, i've been trying to fix the same problem for months. although i don't have the same motherboard, i do have an 120gb Maxtor SATA drive. MOBO: Asus A8N-E (nforce4 chipset) Chip: Athlon 64 3700+ OS: WinXP Pro with SP2 and current hotfixes Video: ATI radeo X1300 (powercolor clone) HDs: 1 - Seagate 80gb SATA (system) 2 - WD 250gb PATA (media, data, etc) 3 - Maxtor 120gb SATA (working space and storage) On this system i get the "delayed write failed" message maybe once a week but it brings the machine to it's knees and i have to do a hard reset. It is only the drive F:, my maxtor drive, that gets this error. i just looked at pages and pages of red and yellow errors in the event viewer that were related to this error, and they only affected the maxtor drive. the other related event viewer messages were: "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\D." and: "The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort5, is not ready for access yet." ..over and over and over... It has often seemed to me that the drive goes to sleep and then can't wake up agian, but i'm about to put it out of it's misery. i think that maxtor had a bad batch there and just won't admit it. |
