| I have 2 X 80 ghz SATA maxtors Raid0 connected to SiS694. I am also getting the delayed write error If I go too event viewer it says SiSRaid and Disk error, you would think one of the drives was failing:eek: I have tried the drives in a SINXP, and they are fine I have not got the SiS Mini IDE drivers installed, so it is not a conflict with the raid drivers. I did have both installed, but i was getting strange, results in ATTO and HDTach. I am unable to do a file system benchmark in Sandra, just locksup. What are you guys getting reported in event viewer? (system) I have also tried 2 sets of SATA cables, but it is still the same. ![]()

| celsmk: You do not have the same motherboard. As ive mentioned in the topic, this is due to the P4S800-E Deluxe board. Either SIS Suck or Maxtor. One of these manufactureres are not getting any business from me unless this is resolved or somebody owns up. Last edited by Stoneh; 03-12-2004 at 06:03 AM.. |

| Try this link to MSKB. It says it is for larger (>137GB) drives, but it has been identified as fixing smaller drives (80GB) as well. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;331958

| Thanks for suggesting the knowledgebase link. I installed it, but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem though. Anyone else try it? Also, the beta bios [1003.001] on the German ftp site does NOT fix the problem [well, not for me, at least] in case anyone was wondering. Thanks, Dan |

| To isolate the problem, you may want to go into cmos and just disable the SIS180 raid controller and see whether it resolves your issue. According to the manual, SATA1 abd SATA2 is controlled by the SIS964 chipset while SATA3 & SATA4 is by the SIS180 Chipset.

As for disabling sis180. I've got an IDE drive connected to it. Will give it a try. ![]()

| I have tried everything, disbling the sis180 channel, still no joy. I tried to install WinXP on the Maxtor drive, after the drivers disk was created by the SIS RAID105 drivers, it was going to plan. Until I discovered that when windows was copying files to hard disk, it was zipping though the files, then it would stop for 4 seconds or so then copy another 9 or 10 files really quickly, then pause. Hell it was taking ages so a halted the install. We need to get either ASUS or SIS to sort this out as it could be bad PR for either company. I wonder if owners of the GigaByte 655TX board suffer the same? I also would like to know if this problem is only with Maxtors Diamond Max 9 family. Its not the ATI, LargeSystemCache or ASPI issue. Its def Maxtor and SIS controllers or even the ASUS Bios. Thanks for all teh suggestions. The Review was interesting. Which means ASUS knows about this problem. I have had no reply from them as yet. PS. People please read the thread title and the my first post. A few have stated that Maxtor drive is working fine on their system, when you look at their machines there not using the same board. Please please, dont post comments like that if you dont have the same motherboard as this post is being looked at by SIS and ASUS. ONLY POST CONFIRMATION IF YOU HAVE A PS800D-E DELUXE not P4C**** or P4S800 etc.. Last edited by Stoneh; 03-12-2004 at 11:32 AM.. |

| Stoneh, let us know if Asus or SiS get back to you:eek: Personally I think you will wait a while before that happens I am going to try my maxtors on Sata 3 & 4 SiS180, to see if it is still the same. If I can get enough cash I will put the maxtors back in my SINXP and get a couple of Raptors. Did not want to do that as I want a nice shiny Prescott to play with. I had read about the Maxtor SATA problem before I got the board so, what can I say My set up isn't crashing, but sods law says something will corrupt sooner or later. ![]()

| Yeah I got a reply from Maxtor and SIS asking for more information. No reply from ASUS what so ever as yet. This is quite strange as I always thoght ASUS was the best M\B manufacturer. They charge premium prices so I was expecting premium service. I will post when I get any answers. I would suggest anyone else having problems to contact ASUS, SIS and Maxtor. Just to let them know the problem is there and it wont dissapear. I had no idea about the problems else I would have got different hardware. |

| My friend called me up who got this motherboard setup with a single 74GB raptor and a Maxtor 120GB SATA drive in non-raid mode on the 964 controller. He was running defrag with diskeeper on his C:\ drive when all of a sudden he got a 0x0000007a bugcheck error. Something is seriously wrong with the drivers for the SIS964 SATA controller.

| Tried both drives on the SiS180, still getting write errors I think it is a SiS driver issue, as event viewer is saying, SiSRaid did not respond in the timeout period and an error occured on Device HardDisk during a paging operation ![]()

| I am finding the same thing. Of course, this thread only appeared after I bought the board... The board is a P4S800D-E with the following drive config: 1. Booting from a WD Raptor connected to SATA1 (964 Southbridge) 2. Two 200GB WDs configured as RAID 0 connected as Master and Slave to the IDE_RAID channel, which means they're on the 180 controller. 3. Two 160GB SATA Maxtors configured as RAID 1 connected to SATA 3 and 4, which also means they're on the 180 controller. The Raptor behaves itself nicely, and the 200GB WDs seem to as well. But when I try to copy large files to the RAID 1 array, I get the Delayed Write Failure. Other configuration information: Windows XP SP1 with all the updates including the Q331958 Hotfix to update ATAPI.SYS to 5.1.2600.1135 per the Microsoft Knowledgebase. Latest drivers from the ASUS site, which means the SiS 1.05 RAID driver. I had put the mini IDE driver on but pulled it off again after reading that it was a Bad Thing. No ATI card has been near the system. I was using the 1002 BIOS and am now on the 1003 Beta BIOS. The board revision is 1.4. Going to try configuring the two Maxtors as separate drives (no RAID) and then RAID 0 to see what happens. I will also log a case with SiS, Maxtor and ASUS and refer to this thread. |

| Just wondering. Can you check device manager and see if the SIS180 is sharing an IRQ? If so, what is it sharing an IRQ with?

Also on IRQ 18 is the SoundMAX stuff. The additional RAID controller (also a SiS 180), which goes by SiS 181 RAID Controller in Device Manager is on IRQ 17. Also on IRQ 17 is VIA 1394 controller. I will try turning off the 1394 controller in the BIOS setup because that will presumably stop the sharing. Interestingly, SiSoft Sandra says "PCI latency too high". Wonder if that's worth looking at? Incidentally, I get hangs if I try to copy stuff to the SATA drives off this controller if RAID isn't in use. This could just be because I'm using Quick Format vs. a full format - what's the difference anyway? | |
