VSEKH - take a look at one of my posts from Sunday morning... I used a clean Windows install. Nothing on there except the SiS controller driver.
Tried the Maxtor on SATA 2, 3 and 4. Failed every time.
My board rev is 1.04 I believe, BIOS 1002.

I'll check the revision on my board when I get home tonight and report back.

Mine is right below the 3rd PCI slot on a white sticker.

These are the files you need to setup the SATA HDD. Use the MB-cd and explore the [Drivers] folder. Click on the [SATA] folder. In the SATA folder you want these files: Si3112r.inf, Si3112r.mpd, Si3112r.sys, SIISUPP.VXD, SIWinAcc.sys, TxtSetup.oem. Put these files on a FDD and Hit the F6 key to load 3rd party mass storage device drivers.
These are the same drivers that are used on the Gigabyte SINXP 1394, SiS693 Sil3112r . I have had the maxtor's running Raid 0 on this board with NO PROBLEMS what so ever.

I am just going to check they are the same drivers.

Just checked my Gigabyte Driver Floppy and it has the exact files that Asus say you need.

Also checked the ASUS Driver Floppy and I can't find all the files that they are quoting:eek: I am going to check the CD to see if they are there BTW I made the ASUS floppy with makedisk.

I am going to use the Gigabtye floppy to install the drives, to see what happens.

that could be the problem. The makedisk utility does not contain any of the files ASUS tech support said, there is no SATA directory, which means ????????

Maybe the proper files aren't on the disk?? .Can someone please verify this?

VSEKH: can you please post your board revision number when you get the chance.

I believe we might be getting somewhere at last

My board revision is 1.04, I believe. Obviously, I have these same problems.

You've got to love the responses from Asus and Maxtor tech support.

Dan

edit: changed 1.4 to 1.04

My board revision is 1.04.

I noticed on the Asus support CD there are SIS raid drivers. I did not install the SIS raid drivers from the CD because they got installed during the installaion. Have you guys installed it?

My driver version for the SIS180 controller according to device manager is 5.1.1039.1050 with a date of 12/9/2003.

What is your driver version and date?

VSEKH:

My Maxtor is a single SATA unit, its not in a raid config. Can you confirm what IRQ is the 180 controller on? and is it sharing with anything (if sharing what is it with?)

The SIS180 controller is using 17 in my system. It was initially sharing an IRQ with the soundblaster audigy2z, but I moved this card to a different slot to remove the sharing.

I just copied about 3 GB of data from the WD 74GB raptor to the Maxtor 250GB SATA drive without any errors. I also ran diskeeper on the Maxtor drive without any bluescreens.
