| HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup Hi, I haven't posted in a long time do to illness but have tried to upgrade my computer with a new motherboard an Asus PT Revolution Workstation that blew my mind and left me in a mess so I purchased an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 MB and I am in a bind as to what my problem is. I can not access my DVD drives ( one a DVD ROM & the other a 22X DVD Burner ) These drives are both Light-On SATA drives and show up in the BIOS but do not show up in mY Computer and Device Manager. I am sure that I have done something wrong in my BIOS sttings but I am at a loss as to what to do. I have gone to Default settings in bios but am at a loss as what to do next. With out theses drives showing up I am not able to load Windows XP again nor any other software from a CD or DVD. Can anyone help me here, I'm 75 and too old for these headaches and newer technology. | Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup Hey pops good to see ya back... Now as for your problem, try the farthest Sata ports 5, and 6. And also set one of your DVD ROM drives as first drive in the bios. See if this helps...

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup Hi Sir Scully, Thanks for your reply. No dice unless I am still wrong in the BIOS setup should have explained that I see them in my Device Manager but they both have a big Y Explanation mark imbedded in Yellow. They are listed as primary IDE by connection and I connected them at SATA 5&6. My Hard drives are 1 & 2. Windeows trouble shooting says they can not load the device driver and they may be corrupt code 39 but I have never had to load drivers for a DVD or DVD-RW. Seems my Chemo wiped my brain clean as I am not sure where to fix this in my bios and I am weary as I spent $360 for the Revolution board that will gather dust now. Tell me how to set one of these drives first in the BIOS please. |

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup Before you do that try uninstalling both drives in the Device Manager. Then restart windows. And see if windows reinstalls them right. Don't worry pops we'll keep after it untill the drives work.

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup If that dosen't work try up dating drivers in the Devise Manager. Sometimes that will work even if ya don't have new drivers. Also you may need a bios upgrade. Asus has a bios update tool on the install disk that came with your mother board. Second thoughts, add the asus mother board disk that came with the mother board. When you up date the drivers.

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup Didn't help still with explanation in yellow and without being able to see my drives I can not use them to upgrade drivers for anything including the motherboard dick that came with it. Trying to upgrade the drives after an uninstall is nix because the computer wants a location and I can't give it the XP Pro disc either let alone the ASUS cd. I am going to watch a Net Flix and give my body an overnight rest and maybe some fresh ideas will come tomorrow if you have any. Thanks Sir Scully, Pops |

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup Gee something else i noticed. You said it shows IDE in the Devise Manager. I looked at my Sata DVD drives and it says no such thing. Maybe you don't have the right thing enabled in the bios. I'm going to look at my bios, as were both running an ASUS mobo. Be back in a few....

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup I looked in my bios after I changed my RAID to Enhanced IDE in the Main Bios screen, in the Storage Configuration, set it to Enhanced IDE. Then looked at the Main window menu, there it read out my DVD ROM drives. Yours should read out the same. Besure you have Enhanced IDE enabled...

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup Another thought, I'd leave one drive disconnected, until you get the one drive back on line. I'm throwing out ideas' like a shotgun, hoping one will work.

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup Are you sure you have the chipset drivers for the new board rather than the drivers from your previous OS /MOBO install. Also I would check to see if ASUS has newer drivers on the website vs the CD that came with the MOBO. Newer board are notorious for older drivers because of developement lag to ship dates for the product. Also you might want to llok at device manager in safe mode . Safe mode shows multiple instance of drivers for device you won't see in normal mode. Even if you installed new MOBO drivers or Chipset drivers without a clean OS install the older drivers maybe still ther and being invoked instead of the newer correct ones. Keep coming back one of us may hit it.

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup Hi and thanks for the input Sir Scully and rjs735. I have done everything suggested except for a BIOS update to no avail. My bios is revision 0302, my CPU is an i7 920 and I can find NO evidence of any Revolution Workstation in my Device Manager. I am thinking that my only course of action now is to remove the SATS DVD drives and replace them with IDE drives that I have in another computer. Sure hate being in this position and feeling so dumb about my problems as I had hoped this to be my final build. I only upgraded now because of owning much larger mega pixel cameras and needed more memory and speed. Pops |

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup If I'm correct your mother board is a P6T6 WS Revolution. If that's the case your bios is quite dated, and you do need to update it to bios 0407. An upgreade can solve your problem.

| Re: HELP: Installation Motherboard / CPU Setup I am not using the WS Revoolution anymore I have replaced it with the P6T Deluxe v2 motherboard as I said in my opening thread Sir Scully. Since replacing the Revolution with the P6T I have been unable to do a new install of the OS Windows XP Pro because I can not use my DVD Drives even though they show in BIOS they do not show in my computer.
