Being the person that has had an Intel proc that I had to RMA, believe me, you will want to believe it's the mobo first. RMA the board, newegg requires you to deal with Intel for the proc with RMA, at least, that is the way it goes for a damaged proc you want to replace. Not to sure on the return policy of the proc.

That error message in normally consistant with a voltage problem.. Do you have the ability to increase the memory voltage? I had another friend who had a similar problem with the 875 board. His memory needed more voltage than the bios allows...Even though you past some memory test in dos, the voltage requirements are slightly different when the whole system is running.

One more thing, so basically you can run through the whole XP setup process right? With no errors?

RMAing a CPU to Intel is a snap. I've done it twice over the last 18months. Call 'em up, explain the problem, they'll send you an email with the return shipping info, send it back and they'll send you a new one out the day they receive your old one. It's that simple.

I just sent a 3.0C to Intel on the Friday before Labor Day via UPS 2nd day. The replacement was delivered to me on the next Wednesday! That's fast, even without the Monday holiday!

Yes it install windows fine. Then once its installed and up and running that's when everything starts to happen. And I have tried 2 power supplies both good quality and they both do it, and with the intel board you can't adjust the dimm voltage. Also I have tried my Dads Samsung 256 meg PC2100 stick of ram and it did the same thing.

I had to call a long-distance number and that's what I did not like about it. Why can't Intel be more like newegg and simply allow you to do it online?

Can't you swap the 2.66B into the 875 board just to test it?

Assuming you want to go through that hassle if you have the same problems then that is also eliminated.

Are you really wedded to an Intel motherboard? I would have RMA'd it for a different mobo already. NOT Intel. Asus, Intel, Gigabyte, Aopen???

I have switched the CPU into both MB's and yes both did the same thing. Could a CPU cause things like this to happen? What motherboard would you recommend I get besides Intel? A I865PE chipset, not a canterwood to expensive.

I doubt it's the cpu then.

I still think the Asus P4P800 or 800 Deluxe are great boards.
You need to indicate what you want to do with the PC of course.
Gigabyte has some solid entries too from what my supplier tells me. I also like Aopen for their commitment to quality and service.

As you got the Intel board I assume you were not into overclocking Falcon.

I am going to give the intel cpu one more chance. I was going to get the Aopen Ax4spe, not the max version just the regular, for $100. It looks like its got alot of voltage controls. What do you think of Aopen? I have never had one before.

Can you adjust voltage on the Asus P4P800? Like Dimm and Cpu voltages?

I would do a Google search for reviews on that and other boards.
The Max version is a solid board and the SPE should be solid too.

You did not indicate whether you are interested in overclocking.

There are some good Gigabyte's in that price range too.
There is a very good P4P800 Guide in these forums if you are interested in that.

I have often thought a few bucks more for a front runner is a good investment. Then you can more easily find forums and others to help, compare notes and catch some support.

This link should give you a list of some other Intel board related links.

Yes the Asus board has a good range of both vcore and vdimm. More than the average overclocker needs at least. The bios is also very easy to navigate and Asus has been keeping up with bios updates.

I hesitated to recommend Abit as they have been struggling some with their bios updates but at default and mild overclocks they are also solid boards.

I just don't know what to do. I have tried 2 intel boards, and both had problems and both used intel's newest chipsets so if I got a third board I just don't seem how that would help since its the same chipset. I just don't know....
