| Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility Benchmarks? Has anyone ever actually done any benchmarks before and after installing Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility to determine whether it improves performance? |

| Re: Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility Benchmarks? Typicallly it's not about performace usually it's about fixes and new additional support.

| Re: Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility Benchmarks? Back in the Pentium 4 days, there was a site called Intel Fanboy or w/e that did the benchmark. They noticed a significant difference(30-40%) before and after. The saying went something like this: "We couldn't figure out why this pretty good Pentium 4 system would perform this bad, and we figured out later it was due to not installing the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility." I'd agree between versions there would be no performance difference, but for Intel chipset, I highly recommend you have it installed at least. The minimum it makes recognizing all the devices easier. UPDATE: At latest by early next year I'll do a before and after overview. I think in general the computer is a little bit sluggish before the chipset drivers are installed. | Re: Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility Benchmarks? Just so were all on the same page. We are talking about Intel drivers vs the OS drivers default. Right?? I would agree that if you don't load the Intel drivers ( that is for an Intel chipset) then you will get very "Generic" performance. When you load the Intel drivers there should be a definite performance gain. When talking about an update to the Intel drivers then you may not see any significant improvement ( unless there was a lack thereof) and therefore only get enhancements to the chipset for additional processor recognition etc.

| Re: Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility Benchmarks? How can it improve performance (and/or contain fixes) though when Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility only contains INF files, no SYS files? Since it is just INF files, is it only useful to users who have exclamation points next to components listed in Device Manager? |
