There might be a place on Intels site that tells all about part no.s I know I've seen it for their Processors. AZ and BZ might just have been built in two different countries or factories but both are revision 2.

FWIW, I've thought about adding another gig. I read somewhere that using four DIMMs instead of two can increase DC performance w/865 & 875.

Guess I'm just not sure the increase justifies another $370. But to each his own I suppose. In my case I could use a better CPU far more than memory.

I recently scanned a 5x7 @1200dpi and tried to print two copies on an 8x11.5 and Microsoft photo printing wizard said "not enough memory". I have 2x512MB. I had 4x512MB and wish I still had it. Got rid of it because everyone around here was saying you can't run 2gigs on a 875 board while I was doing it. Also heard can't have PAT enabled with 2gigs, also wanted the extral doe.

Finished the build on B-in-Law's machine. So far so good. He has taken it home to finish with window's updates. (He has Cable internet & I have dsl)

Anyway it went really smooth. I may be shooting myself in the foot, but I don't anticipate any trouble with his machine.

His MB came with the 05 BIOS and I left it as is. Didn't see much need to update. Why take a chance, when things are going good.

Intel has a specification update available on its website for the D875PBZLK board. It mentions some erata.

LAN problems

For what it's worth, I had to RMA my first D875pbz because the LAN never worked. It kind of p******d me off b/c it was the first rig I had built myself and did not want things to go wrong on my first try. Viewing the glass half full, I now know how the RMA process works. Googlegear sent me a new board and the LAN works. So now I'm batting .500. The Serial Number is BTBZ3230433. I don't know the rev #.

I have not experienced any of the warm boot/ cold boot issues discussed herein. Now that the LAN works, I love my machine and would not change any of the components.

My only issue now is that Windows XP takes a long time to load, during which time I can't control my computer. I think it's one of the windows services that is holding me back. I don't want to highjack this thread, so if you have any suggestions on how to speed up the XP load time, please e-mail them to me.

thanks!!

Hi,

My board is also a Rev 2 - Serial # BTBZ32303991 (AA # C26680-205)

It came with BIOS Rev P05 which I immediately updated to P09 before installing Windows XP etc.

I am using 2 x 512 Mb of Kingston HyperX 3200 memory and a couple of SATA 120 Gb Maxtor drives in a RAID 0 array.

As I had a couple of early lockups at the BIOS screens using the default SPD memory settings of 2-2-2-6 I slackened these off a bit to 2-3-3-6 and everything has been fine since.

I am taking things quite slowly, and have now got Win XP installed, together with all the critical updates, and the video drivers for my Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro.

Next task is to install an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card, and then hopefully a few applications!

Interesting. I wonder what a "front panel audio card" is.
I have heard odd crackling occasionaly coming from the right channel of my Tannoy monitor, but this occurs whether the system is off or on, so I didn't relate it to my workstation.
It does give rise to a thought, however. I am probably the only person on these forums using an Echo Audio professional soundcard in his D875PBZ.

TQ, there is a version of this board that has onboard sound. (not available in the retail market) I think that is what they are referring to.

I don't think so unless you get a propriotary board from Dell, it'll probably come with onboard sound.

By the way anybody notice this thread is one of a few with 5-Stars. Great board, it deserves 5 stars in my opinion. Mine has been running kick *** for about 5 days now. Not one lockup and I'm back to Burn-In-Mode +4% and 5-2-3-2. Just clocked 19,030 last nite in 3DMark2001SE and 6352 in 3DMark2003. Woot.

Sandog, the O.E.M. version of this board does come with onboard sound. I dont have the time to find the link, but it does state this on Intel's site.
I REALLY was ready to buy this board, but I am concerned now after reading this post. Too many weird things seem to be happening with this Intel board that just arent supposed to happen on an Intel board.

Well if its the same board as mine and with the same audio as the PERL, then I might wait a couple of months for the boards to mature and get the 875 with onboard sound. I am really enjoying my system again.
