It is amazing the beating some of this stuff can take, I got one of the kids a 6600gt for Christmas and the corner of the card had actually come out the end of the box, it worked just fine though.

Yes but that damaged box always makes me nervous until I get to test it.

D875 at ZZF

Apperently zipzoomfly finally ran out of the retail D875PBZLKs. It may be the end of their availability. Their website says they'll get more but ZZF's website often states that and then the entry just ceases to exist like my p4c800-e deluxe. We grabbed while we could. I have yet to use mine but having socket 478 MB options to go with my processors is a secure feeling. I almost wish some of my other 875P stuff would act up so I could finally use the d875PBZLK.

OK, some benchies with the new eVGA 7800GS Superclock using 3DMark05:

3DMarks = 5014 + 6800GT/driver version 78.03 settings: quality - card speeds: 401/1.1
3DMarks = 5453 + 6800GT/driver version 81.98 settings: quality - card speeds: 401/1.1
3DMarks = 6329 + 7800GS/driver version 81.98 settings: quality - card speeds: default

By the way, the card is a really beautiful looking piece of hardware.

Hi Guys,
I need a new DSL modem and thinking of getting an Ethernet type. Does this board support such a connection? Where is the Ethernet connection (if there is one) ?
Thanks, Danny.

I moved the 6800GT over to my workstation today. I must say that these 81.98 drivers are best I've used since the 78.03's. They're even better.
I was pleased to see that the corrupted sky in Thief 2 was fixed with the 81.98's.
I am thrilled with the way both of my 875's are running.

The 875PBZLK has onboard LAN, that should work with a DSL modem. I have ADSL and used both USB and ethernet modems, ethernet is the way to go, for sure.

I'm using the on-board LAN for DSL and yes, both of my 875-based systems are currently getting down with their bad selves.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I take it the ethernet connection goes in the 'LAN' connection on the back, and I have to enable LAN in the BIOS? Sorry for the dumb questions .. I'm just worried.. I Don't want to spend money on a modem and not be able to get it working .

I'm also thinking of buying some new RAM, seeing as this chipset is on the way out.
At the moment I have 2x256 Kingston Value ram... prepared to dump this for another system if need be. (I heard 4 sticks could be too power hungry)
I have the 303 revision board. I'm thinking of buying 2X512mb DDR sticks.. I take it anymore could just become a performance hit?
Is there any particular RAM you would recommend (I like gaming so faster the better) , and would I need to alter the voltage\bios settings ? Is this easy?
Any help much appreciated,
From Danny.

Yes Dannyy, network cable plugs into the back. You have to enable it in the BIOS and load the LAN drivers.
Memory? 2 X 512MB should do just fine. It seems this board works pretty well with many different kinds of RAM, the vanilla Crucial RAM I've got works just fine. If I had to choose high performance RAM, I might go with OCZ Platinum or Titanium. Make sure you get double sided memory. Everybody else here knows more about than I do, they'll probably have more suggestions for you.

I had the same worries when I first went to high speed cable a year or so back. Main thing is to load the LAN drivers and enable it in BIOS. It'll be fine. Make sure you disable your "dial-up" connectoids if you have any. Whatever you do - DO NOT USE A USB CONNECTION FROM THE MODEM TO THE MOBO.

The RAM and the timings in my sig seems to have worked the best and I tried a few different brands and speeds. It's fast and stable. Keep it to only two sticks of either 2x512 or 2x1024. The former is my preference as I have not seen an appreciable increase with the latter.

I'm running 2x1024 in my v303 gaming machine and it definitely makes a difference in map/level load times and by not having to use virtual memory.
I'd recommend any high performance Mushkin, as it is the easiest in my experience to get up and running. If you plan to keep this as your game machine for the foreseeable future 2GB of RAM is the best investment you can make, provided your AGP video card is of relatively recent manufacture.

I'm also running 4x512 (all slots filled) v205 in my workstation and have seen no problems and nothing but performance. This machine processes large audio and video files.

You might note that I'm running OCZ Platinum in my game machine, yet I recommend Muskin. The OCZ is an excellent performer, but it can be persnickity to set up. At first, my v303 wouldn't boot with the OCZ. I finally got it sorted out with the help of OCZ's excellent website forum I (and it's running quite fine now) but be forewarned that you may have some issues with OCZ RAM and the 875.
With Mushkin it's always been plug it in and you're good to go.

Hi guys,
Thanks for your help. I take it the LAN drivers are on the CD .. it says 'Intel PRO Network Connections 8' ? I looked on the Intel website and all I found was this file:-
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...ition&lang=eng

If I bought, for example, some CAS 2 , 2-3-3, Voltage 2.6-2.8v 2x512 matched sticks, would it just plug in and run nice and quick, or would I need to change some settings?
Thanks,
Danny.
