Re: Intel DP43TF - Simplicity "in action"

I had to get some fans that were ~1000 to 1200 RPM to ensure there was air flowing near the ICH. It reduced the temps from ~ 80C to 55C. The GPU was impeding the air flow. Yes, BIOS >V82 reduces fan speeds. I believe they were more concerned about noise.

I have the Antec Gamer case so I have 2-120 Fans in the front, 1-120 in the rear, and 1-140 at top. None of them spin more than 1200RPM's. Very quiet. Keeps the system cool.

At 72F ambient:

PTM 112F
MT 91F
ICH 135F
MCH 151F

PSU 750 RPM
HSF 1130 RPM

CPU @ Idle 32C

My ICH is always 90+ celsius (right now 97) which seems way too hot to me, but Intel's IDU is fine with anything below 119

if they are fine with such a high temperature no wonder the fans are spinning slowly

Intel boards are famous fore their "case fan control problems".
Intel boys NEVER solved these problems - with each new BIOS - always some kind of fan problems, new or old. Case fans ->> 3 or 4 pins, directly attached to the motherboard, I mean.

I knew this, and because of this, I attached all my case fans to the PSU.
"Try new BIOS" is unwise move- do not play with BIOS until you have a real problem to solve.

If you know how to "touch" the Intel mobos, you will always survive.
The Intel mobos are "heavenly creatures". No OC, no BIOS "updates", no "experiments".

The tagline is ok. The only problem i have had until know- almost 3 months, on 24/7, was the corrupted EEPROM in my Intel® PRO/1000 GT Desktop Adapter, because of surge and power failure.

Mobo BIOS 086
Wndows XP Pro 64 bit
8GB RAM
Antec SOLO
rear fan- Scythe S-Flex 120mm- 800 rpm
front fan- Noctua 92mm - 600 rpm with the ULNA adaptor.
PSU - Seasonic 550W Energy+

Temp:
CPU Intel QuadCore 9550
CPU 40C at HSF 1140 rpm - Intel original HSF
CPU idle - 35C
Board temp sensor - 36C
ICH - 59C
MCH -68C
HDD- stable at 29C-30C

Re: Intel DP43TF - Simplicity "in action"

Hi Panzerino - well said. I too had surge problems in the past. No more:

Re: Intel DP43TF - Simplicity "in action"

Hi Jim,

You are our club member, or you "immigrate" to the P55 wagon?

I have this
APC - Line-R - Product Information

but something happen. May be the adapter was defective... this was not a mobo issue.

Re: Intel DP43TF - Simplicity "in action"

I am a dedicated club member. When it is time to upgrade, the P55 is in my sights. Right now what's in my sights is Win 7 and a new GPU.

Did you have the APC hardware before the surge or purchased it since?

Re: Intel DP43TF - Simplicity "in action"

You try Win 7? have good impressions? I dislike this new Vista clone really...

Have the APC 3 years from now- never had a problem.
You will laugh, but one schuko adapter cable for this APC cost half the price of the whole APC unit.

But the APC is very stable.

Re: Intel DP43TF - Simplicity "in action"

I skipped Vista entirely and never bothered with the Win 7 RTM downloads. I wanted to patiently wait for the final. So I know nothing about Win 7. I know one thing - if its perceived negatively as Vista was, MS is in big trouble.

To be honest - I like XPPro. But I like games, so DX10/11 is important to me.

Re: Intel DP43TF - Simplicity "in action"

Jim,

Our systems are rock solid 3months from now.
No need to go anywhere more "high", I think.
New LAN driver appear. But after my EEPROM catastrophe ( which may be was the driver "update" event) I will not update.
Replace my old Intel Pro 1000 /GT with a brand new PCI-E Intel Gigabit CT Adapter. All is working fine. These Intel cards are really very fast!

Re: Intel DP43TF - Simplicity "in action"

My DP43TF is as solid as a rock. Still my primary rig. "If it ain't broke - don't fix it" and as such, I am still at v82 of the BIOS. No issues - all is working. Wife likes to use this rig for her work. She hates laptops!

I am putting a ASUS P7P55D together for the purpose of gaming. Curious about W7 64bit so I'll play with that awhile.

Glad to hear your up and running. Great about your PCI-E Intel Gigabit CT Adapter.

Yes, the well known mess with the Intel motherboard fan control.
They never achieved working condition. Bizarre...but it is true.
The best solution is:

*good case airflow
*good quality 3 pin fans, directly attached to the PSU
