| Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) you're probably missing a codec,I would suggest getting VLC media player,it will play your DVD's( I don't even fool around with Windows media player,I use winamp for my music and VLC to play my DVD movies)

I tried registering a month ago and my membership was denied after 3 weeks. I wrote customer support and received no response... Anyways, I bought my DP45SG on 4/22, and when it arrived I got everything up and running. (the system "pumping" was new to me, but it seemed ok) I was able to download and update to BIOS rev. immediately: SGP4510H.86A.0112.2009.0311.1722 Stock was: SGP4510H.86A.0088.2008.829.1839 I was following this forum shortly thereafter, and was able to remedy some of my issues after paging through all 145 or so pages. I saw that a new BIOS was released on 5/5 and I downloaded the windows version, ran exe, rebooted. It got to the Intel bios upgrade, and the cursor blinked for a few seconds, and rebooted. I knew that this was not normal because my previous update was successful. Made the CD ISO on the Intel site, and same result. Cleared CMOS, power cycled, tried again to no avail. I can't seem to get the BIOS upgraded past 0112. I can't update to any previous versions either. Any ideas? Also, I am running Corsair XMS3 1333Mhz ram (2x 2GB), which I purchased later in May. It runs at 1066 fine, but is very finicky when I set to 1333. I used the variables my ram recommeded (9-9-9-24 @ 1.6v) that i specified manually in BIOS. Sometimes I would get the machine to run for a day or two, and other times it won't get through the boot cycle before hanging. It does not reboot. I have a MS mouse with the LED at the back, and I can tell if it's frozen because USB power turns off. I'm not doing anything fabulous that demands processor time. Running Vista Ultimate, memory back to 1066 which is stable as anything. I'd love to get this MB running as smoothly as everyone else has, the board has much potential but is just very touchy. I swear I couldn't find anything bad about it before i bought it, but I had a similar run with a previous ASUS board, so I didn't go back. Once I had it in my hands, I thought that I was the only one that was having problems. ALSO, who designs SATA ports right behind the f'ing 2nd PCI-X port? These vid cards today are almost full-length and I had to mod the plastic of my $250 video card to get it to work, and I can't even use all my SATA ports because of it. I have a feeling that I might get some stability resolved with 0116 but I can't make it work. ideas??

I got an x-fi Titanium fatal1ty PCIe and it rocks, is like 100 times better than the included in this mobo, highly recommended this card. I also got a Maya 44e PCIe plugged in the second PCIe16x and I have 0 issues with my video card.

Another problem is related to some usb devices, especially flash sticks. On restart the MB fails to proper initialise the devices and hangs at displaying BA. So, no, the problems with this motherboard aren't over.

| Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) hi bogdanw - I don't seem to have any troubles with any of my USB devices on boot, and I've got 2 flash sticks and a memory card reader plugged in all the time. I am using Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333 XM3X2048-1333C9DHX, is that what you have? I did have some success running 1333mhz for a period of time, but the instability returned sometime about a week later and I had to revert to 1066. |

| Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) @Randy I have 2 Twin3X2048-1333C9 (4GB total), the system is stable with memory running at 1333Mhz, although the memory modules tend to heat, but start -shutdown - start is really annoying. About the USB devices... I also have a 250GB permanently connected through USB but sometimes when I restart the computer with Kingston Data Traveler 8 Gb connected it just won't restart. |

| Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) @bogdanw we have the same memory sticks, the DHX incorporates their Dual-Path Heat Exchange, so the ram has it's own heatsinks. I haven't noticed any high temps on the RAM, but I have aluminum over the sticks so it's harder to tell. The system "pumping" seems to be a feature that everyone deals with. I guess I don't mind as long as it works... I have a Kingston 4GB DataTraveler Mini utilizing vista's ReadyBoost capability plugged in always, and I also have a 8GB Kingston DataTraveler that is plugged in the last few reboots. What BIOS are you on? I'm going to try to contact Intel again to see if they can provide any further assistance with upgrading my BIOS. |

| Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) I used the Live Chat on their site, and the operator recommended I try updating via the recovery method. Remove BIOS jumper on MB, copy .bio file to USB, boot. It automatically updated and I rebooted, very nice and easy for a recovery mode. Running BIOS 0116 now, and I put the memory speed back to 1333@ 9-9-9-24 @ 1.6v. It booted successfully to the OS, so we'll see how things go over the next week. I use Vista Ultimate's MCE to watch TV, and while it's not CPU intensive, it's better than idling. I also have a backup process that will run around 5am so that should put it through the ringer for a few hours. If I get positive results next week Ill ramp up the CPU timing and OC my 2.5 Q9300 to 3.0 Ghz. On a side note, I plugged in my Windows Mobile Smartphone to USB before rebooting, and after I made BIOS changes it rebooted, showed "intel" in lower right, and then went black. No 2nd beep to complete POST. I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del and it rebooted normally. Not sure if I didn't wait long enough (1 min) for it to do whatever it was doing... It might have been checking the storage card on the WinMo device for boot??? |

| Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg) I have had my PC for a while now. On occasion I have heard a high pitch sound coming from my PC and I never really took the time to find out what could be causing it. Last night I decided to do some investigation, it turns out to be the motherboard. Not sure why. Could be a old cap or something. If I disconnect the PSU from the MB no sound, as soon as I plug it back into the MB the sound starts up again. This is without actually booting up. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Going to be taking it back the the supplier next week. Hope for a swap out.
