Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

I was just talking to Intel Tech support. Thought I'd share the conversation. As usual they gave me the usual bull about overclocking. Any why the heck was he calling me sir?! Weird.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Aldy'

Aldy: Hello. Thank you for visiting the Intel Customer Support chat service. We are glad to be of service. How can I help you?
you: Hi, in the BIOS, under Performance and then Processor Overrides, Under Processor Multiplier, it says Half Ratio Multiplier (Enable or Disable). What does the half ratio multiplier do?
Aldy: You are reporting for DX58SO motherboard right?
you: nope. DP45SG
you: Here is the relevant BIOS screenshot
you: http://i35.tinypic.com/18j4hg.jpg
Aldy: Ohh, Sorry about that.
you: no worries
Aldy: Kindly hold for 2 minutes and I will check your concern. Thank you.
you: Sure. Thanks.
Aldy: Thank you for waiting...
Aldy: If the processor multiplier is 9 and the Half Ratio Multiplier is enabled, it will set to 9.5 Sir.
Aldy: With .05 increment Sir.
you: So, if the host frequency is 400, the processor frequency will be 3.8GHz with it enabled?
you: and 3.6GHz if disabled.
you: That would be an increment of 0.5, not 0.05
Aldy: Yes, that is correct.
Aldy: 0.5 I mean. I apologize for that.
you: The BIOS reports a frequency of 3.8GHz but Windows shows 3.6GHz and CPU-Z also shows 3.6GHz. Is that Intel Speedstep at work? I tried to load the processor with a benchmark but the frequency stayed at 3.6GHz as reported by Windows Task Manager and CPU-Z
you: Is there a more reliable way to find out processor speed in realtime?
Aldy: For this concern, we cannot provide information anymore Sir because this is all about overclocking and we do not recommend it.
you: Ok, I'm seriously getting annoyed with your tech support. This is what you say each time but then I point out to you that you advertise this as an overclocking board.
you: And then you give answers. Each and Every time.
you: Welcome to the extreme performance platform brought to you by Intel® Desktop Board DP45SG, supporting the Intel® Core™2 Extreme processor with up to 1333 FSB. Built in the full size ATX, this board comes with dual PCI Express* (PCIe) 2.0 x16 graphics connectors, DDR-3 1333 support and OVERCLOCKING capabilities. Intel® Desktop Board DP45SG will take your gaming experience to a higher level.
you: From: Intel® Desktop Board DP45SG - Overview
Aldy: Yes as for technical assistance for overclocking, we do not provide Sir.
you: Ok, then can you please tell me what reliable way is there of finding processor frequencies during operating system uptime
you: I want to make sure Speedstep is working
you: I hope THAT doesn't come under overclocking
Aldy: Please open this link sir: Intel Processor Identification Utility
At this point Chrome crashed. In hindsight I'd copied the text to the clipboard.
I tried running the utility and it, too, reports 3.6GHz.

I'll take it up with their Tech support again. Have to run out for a bit.

I'm going to get Intel to answer my query if it's the last thing I do.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Having some trouble with the onboard sound. I use a headset and they don't work when I use the USB option. When I use the prongs (technical term, lol) I can atleast hear and people can hear me but the sound quality goes way down. There is a light on my USB plug that is on when plugged in but I still can't hear anything and people can't hear me. I am using a Plaintronics Gamecom 777 headset. It was working fine until I tried another headset which makes me think I am missing a setting. (?)

Intel's guys like usual men, worse for them ....

Why do you have setting manual the configuration of the memorys ?. We have the same memory and the automatic setting work very well for me, 5:8 ratio and everything work ok, no reboot, nothing.

Other thing, not so important but anyway I comment to you; does your windows 7 read the speed of overclocking in computer-> properties?, because in my case this is what I got: .... Q9550 @ 2.86MHz 2.86
and not ...Q9550 @ 2.86MHz 3.4 .. that is what should be

cheers

I'll try setting memory to automatic as well. If it works the single boot will be bliss.

Yeah, Win 7 shows my overclock as Q9650 @ 3.00GHz 3.60 GHz

What does CPU-Z show when you see Q9550 @ 2.86MHz 2.86?

CPU-Z, SIW, and BIOS shows 3.4 GHz, only Windows does not register the real speed.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

hello, i´m new here and my english is not the best.

i have also the Intel DP45SG - but i have some problems:
1.) i can only start with following timings:
Reference Frequency - Default
Memory Frequency - 800 MHz
6-6-6-18 - 8 - 45-4-4-4-1.700 Volt
I cant change any timings :-(

2. I cant go over 440MHz FSB stable, i testet it with BIOS xx21 and xx92
I need about 500 MHz FSB, because i want to buy a Intel E9550

I have an Intel Core2Duo E8600, worked with my old Mainboard @ 3,6GHz /1,4V and 4*2GB Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G

I have the same speakers and they're covered by a 2 year warranty, so if it's still within that timeframe contact Logitech support. They can be very kind when they want to be.
