Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Here's the current CPU-Z output. Notice my chipset is version A3 which is why Intel waited so long to bring this board out. The memory in running at 1T which I think is cool. Also take close note on SPD screen. These are the options CPU-Z is reporting for my SuperTalent 1600. Running at 1066 7-7-7-21 appears to give me a 5:8 FSB ratio which is good I believe. Anyhow my system is running fast and steady. The restart problem is gone but S3 does not work when returning from standby. Almost every Intel board has S3 problems in the beginning which always get ironed out. I will try to get some mobo/CPU temps here in a minute.

Sandog

Try the unticked the Wake from the "LAN options". May be the network adapter wake up the system.
The two default checked items are "Wake on Directed Packet" and "Wake on Magic Packet". Remain only with the "Wake on Magic Packet" checked.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Hey Sandog,

You're running your 3ghz quad at 2ghz according to your screeny. I had same issue with Vista installed, even with EIST turned off.

I think there are some power mgmt options you might wanna turn off.

I have same A3 revision board. I personnally would like to run my mem at 1333 in order to get a 1:2 fsb/dram ratio.

Good tip!

I found that in my Device Manager/Network adapters/Properties>Power Management menu. I unclicked the two 'wake on LAN' options. I also have boot from LAN disabled in BIOS.

I am not sure who had the networking issue but I had the same issue he was having again when I updated my BIOS. What happens is you do not get an internet connection in Vista (cannot connect to DNS or something server). The mobo is assigning the wrong address. See if you have an address beginning with 169.??? If so then here's what you do.
1. Turn off computer and unplug AC from computer.
2. Disconnect power, ethernet cable, modem cable from modem.
3. Plug in modem power for 15s min. and unplug.
4. Plug in modem cable.
5. Plug in modem power and wait for all LED's.
6. Plug in modem ethernet.
7. Plug in AC to computer and reboot.

This works for me. I get my correct IP address back and I'm good to go.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Let me tell you it was different installing a new BIOS. First I did not have a thumbdrive handy so I tried to make a bootable CD using the links in the Intel BIOS readme doc. The one link makes a CD by emulating a 2.88MB floppy. I was working with this until I saw the recovery BIOS is almost 13MB big. I then went and got ahold of a thumbdrive and loaded the recovery BIOS on it (SG0083.BIO file). In BIOS there is an option to force booting from USB drive. I did not enable this because if you pull the BIOS jumper off completely it will search all drives except hard drives. Anyway, when I did this it takes awhile. The computer starts, reads from the thumbdrive eventually, then restarts eventually and then you get a message like 'NVRAM fault something or other, loading defaults, press enter to continue'. What is does is reset all the BIOS settings to default. Then the computer reboots, looks at the thumbdrive again, then blank screen for awhile, then finally flash screen comes up. It writes to memory, flashes memory, then writes BIOS, then it takes forever to see the 'completed with flashing BIOS' (because of big BIOS file.) The computer then tells you to turn off power, replace jumper, and restart.

I tried the EB BIOS (express BIOS) but I was having restart problems and it wouldn't work.

Yeah I knew that, the trouble is after I read your post I found out I could not make it go to 3.0GHz. I thought it was running at 3.0 when I stressed it but I do not know for sure now. Under processor power management I changed the minimum processor state from %5 to %100 and now it reads 3.0GHz in CPU-z plus it appears to run a helluva lot quicker. Might have to redo benchmarks lol. It appears it was stuck at 2.0GHz all the time. I still want EIST working though.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

OK I set the CPU power management back to default. I was able to run CPUBurn and see my processor reach 3GHz in CPU-z.

In the CPU-z screenies above I feel I should get 1333 DDR3 instead of 1600 because I do not plan to OC this machine. Above you see the wonderful XMP settings but my board will never select those. I have the choice of auto select in BIOS or manual. Auto selects something close the the first JEDEC selection in my pic. Then again, on Intels tested memory page none of the 1333 sticks are less than 9-9-9. I would like to see somebody run 1333 memory on this board and see what the latencies come up as. If they only do 9-9-9 like mine then I am not missing anything.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

No new updates, system is running well but I still have the restart problem and return from S3 problem. I thought the restart was fixed because it worked before but it is not reliable. I have not looked at temps closely within Vista and I'm still waiting on Intels IDCC. I will need to determine if a new aftermarket HSF is required to cool the CPU or not. Other than maybe replacing the CPU HSF and possibly getting a new gaming mouse I am pretty much done with hardware changes for now.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

Like you see, this is not a BIOS problem...
The network adapter or the installed memory are the issue... or the PSU?

Looks good to me, 500W power supply is plenty for that.

A 500watt powersupply is great plenty, unless you decide to drop a second Radeon 3870 in to your computer.

Re: Intel DP45SG (Skyburg)

I think I will go the extra mile and get a 600+ watt power supply. I have thought about going crossfire when the 3870 card goes below 50.00 dollars.
