Re: Intel DP55KG (Kingsberg)

Hey -

I have a NE wishlist since this tread started - look at first post. Pricing has not changed yet.

Plan to wait a month or so - I want to see the new CPU's Intel will be releasing. Saving my pennies now.

Re: Intel DP55KG (Kingsberg)

OK, cool beans. I hope you can get it soon. There are drivers up including Dolby Audio Center and IDCC. Had to wait almost a year for the DP45SG to get those two apps.

Re: Intel DP55KG (Kingsberg)

Maybe it was a good thing for X58 to release so far in advance of P55. The Dolby Audio Center and IDCC might share a common code base with two chipsets.

Pure speculation.

Re: Intel DP55KG (Kingsberg)

A $5.00 price drop from my initial pricing - we're getting there.

A recent BIOS update posted. I like the new interface on the "Downloads" on Intel's site.

Re: Intel DP55KG (Kingsberg)

Take your time ol' bud. Yes the Intel download page is an improvement. I wish it would remember your selections.

For anyone building a complete new system a great setup would be:

This case> http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=NzIy

This cooler> Welcome to Corsair :: H50 Product Information

This combo> Intel Desktop Board DP55KG Motherboard & Corsair Dominator PC12800 RAM Bundle at TigerDirect.com

All rock solid components that are black and blue. You can hide all the cable behind the mobo and see the flashing skull on the mobo. Just too cool.

This was a very telling comment from the article (emphasis mine):

Quote:
In moving the PCIe controller to the processor die, Intel significantly reduced the number of PCIe lanes compared to the X58 platform. Those who prefer a single GPU system don't have much cause for concern, but high-end Crossfire/SLI configurations may be degraded and anything beyond that is simply out of the question. It's also worth pointing out that for the same price, AMD's 790FX platform may not be faster in terms of CPU performance, but it does offer twice the number of PCIe lanes.
I'm not necessarily interested in dual GPU solutions, but this might be of interest to some of my ABX buds!

Re: Intel DP55KG (Kingsberg)

With single card systems this board will be the most efficient. My DP45SG was very fast and cool and this board will be much better. Triple channel DDR and 2 full PCIe x16 slots with a lot of heat is all X58 has over this board.

Also SLI/Crossfire is a short dream no better evident than the latest ATI 5870 which single handidly tops 4870 in Crossfire.

not all...one of the major advantages of X58 is the upgrade path is better...Gulftown will use the same Socket so you can upgrade to a 6+ core CPU very easily...Socket 1156 is an excellent platform but somewhat limited in terms of future builds...plus it's always nice to have that option of 2 full x16 lanes as PCI EXpress 3.0 draws closer...the option to use SLI/Crossfire is a nice one to have as you don't know what the future holds in terms of GPU power/specs

Re: Intel DP55KG (Kingsberg)

So far Gulftown is going to be presented as an Extreme Edition chip. No word yet on the other models that will be available but I am sure Intel will not abandon the X58 to just the EE chip. Most people run the i7-920 on the X58 boards. Also Lynnfields are new tech. I don't think Intel will come out with new 1366 i7's with just a die shrink, they will probably be 6 core also. The future GPU cards are getting hotter, NVidia's G300 will be hotter than the G200's are but both companies are getting down below 50W at idle with their cards so that is a big plus.
