| Installing the chipset drivers worked like a charm, but every time I try to install the security drivers under win2k (safe mode w/ prompt or under the normal desktop) I get the following message: "This platform does not support the Intel Security Driver, please contact your OEM for support." I downloaded it from Intel directly. Is there a difference between this one from Intel and the one on the front page? Or is there something I don't know about, or something I'm doing wrong? I have the Black Pearl and 1GHz PIII. Note: The version is 1.03.001

| Well, searched the forum and looks like the sec drivers are useless! I'm not positive, but it looks like it, especially if the firmware hub is unrecognized.

| This driver does clear up the "unknown PCI device" for lots of people.

| delusion_, I have a recent Cusl2-C (rev.1.02) and I get the same OEM message you do. After searching the board also, I came to the conclusion that the Security drivers can't be installed on my board and therefore aren't needed. It has something to do with Asus changing one of the chipset chips if I remember right. NytOwl |

| Here's the scoop: http://developer.intel.com/design/so...m/security.htm Basically, the security driver uses the FWH. Look on your motherboard for a chip that says "82802AB" on it - it may be under a BIOS sticker - that's the Firmware Hub. Inside the Firmware Hub is a random number generator. The RNG can be used for secure communications, corporate applications, secure transactions, etc.; but really there is no use unless you are in a corporate setting and EVERYONE has this chip and the security driver installed. I was unaware that the newer CUSL2-C boards didn't have this chip- my CUSL2 does! You also shouldn't really have a bang in your Device Manager at all, and if you did it would be under System Devices. You will have an entry for "Intel(r) 82802 Firmware Hub Device" without the security driver, but with the INF utility (Chipset Installation Sofware it's called now, I think). Summary: you don't need it, don't install it, forget about it! -s |

| delusion_, Sorry about the earlier post, I meant to reply to Asus333. Anyway, as I was looking back at previous posts about this Firmware Hub issue I found that Intel's current 815EP chipset motherboard doesn't have a Security Driver listed. Here's the link... http://developer.intel.com/design/mo...a/ea_drive.htm . Another example that the Security driver isn't important at this time. NytOwl |
