Picked-up some Corsair XMS CM2x2028-6400C5C for $55.00.

So for $145.00 total I'll see what happens.

Thanks all.
Great MB and RAM combo. That's what I'm running right now. Stable, no issues. And, if you' re interested, it overclocks like a champ! You'll love it.
Enjoy!

Re: Mobo up-grade

Thanks - I read the manual and there is all sorts of stuff I can muck with with. I'll start the new build as soon as my new HDD arrives.

Re: Mobo up-grade

Hey JT,

I looked at that mobo myself before I bought the DP45SG and also the DDR3 version. It is actually much better on OCing DDR2 than DDR3 if you want to have fun. The OCing software utiliity is a snap to use also. I wish I could have sold you my Q9650. That board will run cool to with the extra copper layer. I would love to get one of Gigabytes boards if I ever got away from Intel.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: Mobo up-grade

Hey Guys

The reason I got the board at a relative low price was it was defective!

Examination of the board prior to installation revealed bent pins and burnt silkscreen around post holes.

Being adventurous I did a quickie install. Posted first time. When installing XP, the BSOD's started.

Had time to muck with the BIOS as well as the OC utilities - very impressive. BSOD's continued. I deinstalled and now chasing the party down to get my monies back.

Overall impression - great board with unlimited possibilities.

Wifey is happy - she gets a laptop. I just fell back in love with my DP43TF.

PS - I did get a new (OEM) WD Black 640G HDD. That works. I'll save that for Win7 when the time comes. Showing interest in the new 55's from Intel.

Sorry to hear that, but you'll love that WD640 Black. I have one of those as well. It's faster, cooler & bigger than my Raptor 150.
edit: and it cost 1/3 as much.

Re: Mobo up-grade

Thanks - I did notice it ran somewhat faster. Quieter too.

Broke my heart about the EP45 - guess is was not in the cards.

Re: Mobo up-grade

The BOXDP55KG is on my NE wish list. I am waiting to see the reviews. Started new thread. Don't want to hijack this more than I have.

BTW -When I went back into the case the last time. I turned the PS over so the fan is facing up. The RPM's of the fan dropped from 850 to 675. Must be running cooler now.

what case is that in the pic?...no top mounting option for the PSU correct?...that's why I hate bottom mounting because of that big mess of wires at the bottom (unless you have a case that hides the wires well)

Re: Mobo up-grade

I bought the GA board from a third-party computer shop. Supposely never used. Bent pins and burn marks on bottom of board made me think otherwise.

Sorry for the blurry pic's - it was in the evening and I was mad as hell!

This is a Antec 300 Gamer case. I am happy with the case as it cools quite well. Bottom mount PSU. Yeah, you have to pardon the mess - no clear side panel for me. The main thing is the two front fans are not blocked by wires and like I said, it is great cooling

I can tidy-up more - this was snapped right after it did the first boot up. I don't clean anything up until after OS is installed and stuff is burn tested.

Re: Mobo up-grade

Hi Sir Skully. That's the way things go. Great board. I relly did enjoy exploring the BIOS and all. Sorry someone sold me a bad board. Bent pins, and burned silk screen out of the box is not a good sign.

This is no reflection on Gigabyte as I called them and they were helpful - no RMA though!
