Mobo up-grade

After reading so many good internet post, on the GIGABYTE EP45-UD3P. I had to try one out. All's I can say, this mobo is where ya bucks get banged.
I've had this mobo up to 537mhz , could go higher if I had better memory. I'm now running 8gig of Corsair XMS2 PC6400 DDR2 800MHz. I'm now oc'ed at 4gig, with an E8400 cpu. 3hr stable prime 95. Amazingly feature rich this mobo will run with the big dogs. You can get this mobo for around $120. on the net. Most likely my last DDR 2 mobo. Its nice to close out DD2 with such a great mobo. GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview - GA-EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.0)

Re: Mobo up-grade

Hi Skully! Hope all's well.
I have been looking at this MB as a possible replacement for the P5B-D. Glad to hear you're having fun with it!

All's well here, hope its like wise. I'm super impressed with this board. There's nothing with as much bang for the buck out there.. It does everything well, runs cool, stable, oc's great... It oc's my 8gigs quite well, it just purrs right along..... I upgraded from a EP35-DS4 also a great board. I just wanted the newer EP45 chip set.

Re: Mobo up-grade

Hi Sir Skully - I'm a little slow .

I have an opportunity to to get a new GIGABYTE EP45-UD3R for ~ $90.00.
2x2G RAM extra. Read a lot of good reviews about this board.

For a novice like me who may or may not even attempt OC, and has no interest in SLI - do you think it's worth it? I have no interest in the 5 series till the 6 series is almost out.

It'll be my first big adventure outside of the Intel Branded boards for my own use.

Thanks,

Jim T.

Re: Mobo up-grade

Me too! It'll be a while to I get to it. That's OK - it gives me enough time to read up! Wife needs own rig - she can have the DP43TF as it's simple and reliable.

Take Care

Jim T.

Re: Mobo up-grade

Seems to be some issues with the board and SB Titanium PCIe cards. May hold off a bit and do more research. Wife can get a laptop if need be!

Re: Mobo up-grade

I just did a build of this board and everything fine. I am running an e8400 with 4mb ram Corsair xms 6400.

I was great believer of the add on Creative sound cards. Most of the on board sound features on the MOBO seem to fill all my needs so I am wondering what beyond surround sound and dolby digital 5 ch or 8 ch sound do you need from the titanium that the onboard capability doesn't gives you.

Re: Mobo up-grade

Hi rjs735

Glad to hear there may not be issues.

Nothing really compelling on using the SB Titanium other than the fact I would not want it to become a doorstop. Just paid $90.00 for it a month or so ago.

Not recently, but a while back, I did notice for lack of any other words the absence of crispiness and fidelity with onboard sound on my current board. This board may be an exception.

Thanks again.

Jim T.

Re: Mobo up-grade

As it turns out the board I got at a great price is a EP45-UD3P. All issues are now laid to rest. Looks like wife is going to get my DP43TF. I'll muck around with the Gigabyte.

Picked-up some Corsair XMS CM2x2028-6400C5C for $55.00.

So for $145.00 total I'll see what happens.

Thanks all.

Re: Mobo up-grade

That is great news. Perhaps tomorrow I start the build. Got to get wifey setup first. Interesting - since initial BIOS, only one update and that was for bitlocker! They must get it right the first time - that'll be a refreshing change.

Thanks Sir Skully.
