Has anyone seen any of the Hybrid boards Id been hearing about?? I had read some where not sure where that some of the Major Manf would release boards incorporting the new chipset for use with Northwood CPu's. I might be up for something like that.

Hmm, I'm picturing an LGA-775 to mPGA-478 converter/adapter but no, I have only heard of combining an AGP slot on 915/925 PCIe boards.

Question

Hi Folks,

I mentioned here post=830144 that I'm considering a new machine, and I'm scoping out a great i875 board (like ASUS P4C800-E-Dlx) or maybe going for i925/i915.

I'm not too stressed over the apparent slower test results for the new boards, it'll still kick my PIII in the pants. What I'm interested in is the "other" stuff. I've got a lovely collection of ISA cards (for my classic P166) that don't go no more because of PCI. Is getting a board now with PCIe slots sensible?

- What other PCIe devices are available now (or soon), apart from Graphics cards. What can go into those PCIe x1 slots?

- Will there be much difference with a system running an 8x AGP graphics card compared to a similar PCIe graphics card?

- I've seen the ASUS P5GDC Deluxe (i915) that can take either DDR or DDR2. If'n I got this mobo with an LGA775 P4 3.4GHz, perhaps 512MB Corsair XMS-3200XL DDR RAM (2-2-2-5) and a PCIe graphics card, what am I really getting over the P4C800-E-Dlx with P4 3.4 Prescott, the same RAM and an 8xAGP card?

Did that make any sense?

Cheers,
-LJ

I am about to fire up a new 925 Intel board and can let you know how it works. I would consider the 925 as it has PCIe. I think this board is going to work well but I'll see, PCIe cards are no more expensive than AGP I believe and memory cost the same as good DDR memory. I bought an ASUS X600 PCIe for 220 and it is a very good card from reviews. Anyway if you can hold off for awhile I would definately try to get a 915 or 925 board. LGA-775 CPU's run pretty hot though so keep that in mind.

Sandog what are your Temps for the LGA775 Cpu. Mine runs as cool as the P4 3.4.C Cpu that I have around 38degrees

I don't even have a LGA-775 CPU yet, I am suppose to get mine Thursday.
So are you running the 3.2 Prescott with the stock heat sink? If so those are some good temps on air. The new revised E0 stepping Prescotts coming in October are suppose to be even cooler. At least cooler when not using the computer hard (full CPU load.)

Very nice chuckbam, you should start an ABIT thread. I see you also have the NCQ drives. You posted a 550 but said 3.0?.

I heard about ASUS's new 925X board, it is suppose to OC past 280MHz or something like that. It also has a different MOS cooler on top and you can get some kind of cooling plate that drops 10C below the CPU. It is getting good reviews. I am hoping LGA-775 picks up so Intel will devote a lot of resources to new CPU's for it and not Northwoods.
