| I'm really not sure why people are spending so much money for a loss in performance right now, but I guess it's your money. I mean really, I like having the latest tech, if it means improvement, but at this point, when you lose performance, what is the point? Just my $0.02

| SPQQKY, it's PCIe, not PCI-X. I'm using PCI-X for my disk controllers something that I wish PCIe was used for but the industry is being really stupid and are pushing the video cards on the PCIe but yet not the PCI slowed down cards that could truly benefit from PCIe-notably NICs and disk controllers. To get PCI-X on a motherboard normally requires an initial outlay of $400+ for the motherboard. |

On OCing, the Intel board doesn't OC anyway (4% tops). But from what I've read about Prescott CPU's they are great OC'rs. Review say performance is equal for equal clocked CPU's compared to Northwood but Prescott has newer extensions and will have other features soon like the halt function, etc. and go up to 4GHz later. Also the other mobo's are suppose to get around the 10% limit. Anyway, I've stated my reasons why I like the board and will be getting it. I really like the PBZ and I think this board will be better. The Prescott is only going to get better also. I was already on water with Northwoods, so I am all set up for Prescotts hehehe. | |

| I know everybody is disappointed in Intel and Intel knows it. I still like the new board a lot and I am not getting it for performance. Here's some info on the new Prescotts that are suppose to be available October 1st THIS year hehe. Desktop Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor on the 90nm Process Technology will undergo the following changes for the D-0 to the E-0 core processor stepping change: # The conversion to E-0 Step will incorporate power optimizations to enable speed enhancements # Includes Execute Disable Bit support and additional power management features (LGA775 only) # The CPU ID will change from 0xF34h to 0xF41h # Updated BIOS required # E-0 is pin compatible with D-0 # Data Sheet available July 14, 2004 # New S-Specs for affected product line items # Customer samples will be provided. Customer qualification required Forecasted Key Milestones: Date of Samples Availability: July 06, 2004 – July 30, 2004 Date of Qualification Data Availability: September 17, 2004 Date Customer Must be Ready to Receive Post-Conversion Material: October 01, 2004 Date of First Availability of Post-Conversion Material: October 01, 2004 http://developer.intel.com/design/p...rs/D0104101.pdf in Q4 Intel will release a Prescott with the above features and stepping with 2MB L2 Cache and a 1066MHz FSB By the way, I am getting this new board in the mail tomorrow and will post up some pics of it tomorrow evening. I plan on getting a 3.4 Prescott and 1GB of Corsair XMS DDR2. Power supply and case not planned yet and may get the ATI X600 PCIe if it is the best I can do at the time. |
