There's nothing unusual about your setup that requires any different instructions.

i wish i had seen this thread before i put my system together just a few days ago. i have an asus p4c800e deluxe with the intel pro 1000 ct lan. this is where i am having my problems. i can't seem to be able to load the drivers for this. i try to load them through the device manager or even with the cd and each time i try, it locks up after as it looks like it is just about finish loading. the message that freezes says " e1000msg.dll to windows\system\32".

my system: asus p4c 800e deluxe
p4 3.0
windows xp pro

in the device manager- there is a yellow exclamtion point and it says the drivers weren't loaded properly- there is a problem....

what gives?

do you have a cracked version of windows? oh yea when you set up your system for the first time the drive you used did you format it to make sure it was clean? XP will give you hell if you try to install it over jank on a pervious hardrive all i can say really is format that hardrive, and reinstall xp professional then try loading up those drivers once again, and i guarantee it will work

This sounds more like a conflict, what cards are installed in what PCI slot? if any.

Not if there is a conflict, re-installing may not be necessary

"do you have a cracked version of windows?" We didn't really need to say that, did we ?

there are no pci cards in there yet as this is a new build. my copy is a full and legal copy of windows xp. this is a very strange problem. asus is taking a while to call back. re-installing windows xp is looking more and more like a sound option
