| Hi Mr. Charles. No, In fact when I got to the step on Steveos Guide to install non driver updates I went to windows updates and I was overwhelmed with how many it wanted to install. I decided not to install any. I did the roll back and the individual stuff Steveo had on the quick step page. In fact this is where he said to go to ATI and get the new catalyst. Anyway.. I finally decided to try the vers. catalyst that came with the 9600XT card. I figured the card isn't that old ... so what the heck. Well, they installed like butter .. I don't get it. But everything is working so thats a good thing. ![]() thanks, joe

| OK.. I'm on my way back to Windows Updates for the Critical Updates The other things I mentioned earlier, (not sure where, 1. How do I change the default address in Windows Explorer from My Documents to the root of C: 2. Does anyone know if you can still assign perminent drive letters to you DVD/CD and DVD Burner other than the letters they take on when the system starts. I know in 98 all I hadda do was get to the drives properties and choose from a slide down menu of any the alphabet then ck the box that say keep setting. I'd like to do this before I start loading programs. I cant find that in XP.. or even if you know a better spot to post those questions. as always .. thanks everyone, joe ![]()

| You can assign drive letters. start/control panel/administrative tools/computer management. then, in left window under the storage header select disk management. As for setting windows explorer default path, I have no clue LOL

| You can right click on My Documents and move to what ever path you like. I personally would recommend any partition other than C: I use my 2nd hard drive exclusively for My Documents, including My Music, My Photos, etc... D:

| SP1 available anywhere ? I apologize if the question has been asked, but does anyone know where a copy of the SP1 for XP can be found that has MS java VM in it still ? I don't really want to get into a discussion why I want it, I just do. Anyone know? I'd be willing to meet up in one of the IM programs to transfer it from someone. Thanks "G" |

| You can go to this site which allows you to download and offers installation tips. An odd setup, but when you go to the above site, scroll down until you see the URL in large letters and click it. It will open two browsers. Just pick on of them, look at the Installation Tips link on the left and read that. Then you can click the Downloads link on the left to get what you need. I have XP Pro SP1a and had to install MS VM due to my work. |

Hello All !!!!!!!!! I have a few questions about my accidental configuration. I will explain my situation a little as to how things ended up the way they are now. (which I want to know how to change) My original configuration was set as such----- 2x36.7Gb Raptor 10,000 rpm HD's set in RAID 0 with 128k as the stripe size. I partitioned my RAID 0 into 3 partitions. C:\ being where the O/S was installed and the other 2 partitions defaulted to corresponding drive letters. I did this to allow myself the ability to format and re-install a fresh O/S without losing anything else. (I only put the O/S on the C: and everything else goes between the other 2 partitions. I have recently done a format and reinstall of my O/S partition that has gone successfully. However......... during the deletion/creation of the partition before the installation process I noticed that once I deleted the initial C: partition and created a new one in its place, the partition numbers changed for all my partitions. After my installation was sucessful and I reached the disk management section of the guide I found that all of my Drive letters had swaped positions with one another and now the partition containing my O/S has become the D: instead of C:. Also under the status bar in disk management my O/S partition is listed as (Boot) and it is now the D:? The drive that was previously my D: has now become the C: drive and its status is shown as (System) in Disk Management. Is this normal or correct? Or is it going to create problems for me down the road? Is it being displayed as (System) due to the fact that it contains my page file? Nothing else that I could come up with could possibly be part of the system status that it is displaying. I have since attempted to change the other non O/S partitions to different drive letters so I wont encounter this problem again. I am of the impression that as long as I designate the other partitions different letters further up the alphabet that my C:\ partition will be where my O/S ends up. Or is this not the case? Thanks for the help and sorry for the 7 Mile post. Coleski
