Check out this comparison of some heat-sinks. The Thermaltake BigTyphoon 120VX performs similarly to the Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme that I'm using. So you shouldn't have any problems.

I will post BIOS screenies in a bit. I was having trouble with XP SP3 but I've managed to overcome that by tweaking some BIOS entries. Don't worry, taking the screenshots in a few minutes and then I'll tell you in detail what I did.

Initially that worked for me, but I manually over-rode (is that a word? ) some memory settings in the BIOS and XP SP3 works like a charm too. Most processor benchmarks are 5-10% better in XP SP3 than in Vista 64bit.

Stay tuned.

Re: OVERCLOCKING the Intel DP45SG

3D Mark Vantage Results

Note: I did not use crossfire as I'm getting extreme artifacting with crossfire enabled. I'll work on making crossfire work in a bit.

Notice how the CPU score jumps from 8663 to 10793. If that isn't cause for celebration, I don't know what is :P

Re: OVERCLOCKING the Intel DP45SG

BIOS screenshots:

This is what we start off with:

And this is what we'll end up with:

Step 1:

Go to processor overrides and select Yes for 'Do you wish to continue'

a) ChangeHost clock frequency override from Automatic to Manual
b) Note down your processor multiplier. 9 in my case.
c) Determine your required frequency. I wanted 3000 MHz.
d) The new Host clock frequency will be 3000/9 = 333 MHz
e) Change x Host clock frequency (MHz) from it's previous value to your result in d)

Press enter and you will notice the Processor frequency at the bottom change.

Step 2:

Go to memory overrides.

Change memory frequency to 1333 MHz (If it isn't already so)
Change reference freqency to 333 MHz.

I did not relax any of the timings. This sorted out the problem I was having in XP SP3 32bit.

I'm not sure if you'll get the same values depending on your processor and overclock. The board supports a max of 1333 MHz anyway. I don't know if we can push it any farther. But for me to go any farther would mean I'd have to increase my host clock frequency because the FSB : DRAM ratio is 1:2.

Monitor your temps for a bit to make sure everything is stable and then restart.

Use CPU-Z to check out the changes.

Re: OVERCLOCKING the Intel DP45SG

You can get SUPER TALENT 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 for $110 (after rebate) from NewEgg until 1/31. I ordered some for that price and will see what I can get my E8500 to do. If it doesn't do much better that 3.51, then I guess I'll run with 8gigs instead of 4gig. It will be afew days.

What RAM are you using atm?

Re: OVERCLOCKING the Intel DP45SG

Wow thanks mate, I shall do that as soon as my new GPU arrives .... Can't wait

EDIT :

I just went ahead and tried it but in system properties it still shows old CPU frequecy ... Y ? also my multiplier is 8.5 ?!?!?!?!?! Weird no ?

Re: OVERCLOCKING the Intel DP45SG

I just ran 3DMark Vantage with crossfireX enabled.

The synthetic scaling is impressive, but then it's just that: synthetic.

Oh, and did I mention, I'm still getting artifacting on some benchmarks and games at 3GHz with crossfire Crossfire works perfectly at 2.4 GHz, though, albeit with a graphics performance drop (10,708 @ 2.4GHz as opposed to 11,780 @ 3.0GHz). Any help guys? Do you think I need to change something from the PCI burn-in menu on the BIOS?

The link is in the top part of the page for the Intel Desktop Control Center:

Intel® Desktop Control Center

There are links to 32-bit and 64-bit BurnInTests and PerformanceTests.

Re: OVERCLOCKING the Intel DP45SG

Thanks a bunch.

I downloaded them but when I try to run either (64 bit) I see a window snap up and then just as quickly disappear. No extra processes in task manager. Wonder what's up.

Edit: OK, figured it out It was extracting the files into Program Files. Heck, how does Intel think people'd figure that out themselves? Divine revelation?

Re: OVERCLOCKING the Intel DP45SG

Yo preyingrazor, check this out :

Is that the right way windows displays the CPU speeds in system properties after OCing ? And my RAM is already @ 1333Mhz should I still set the referencfrequency to 333 ?

That's your base score. Click on the link next to 2.0 and post the screenshot of your individual scores too.

Re: OVERCLOCKING the Intel DP45SG

I cannot mate, else my PC woill freeze, coz of the screwed up GPU I got .... For that to happen I need to wait for the 280 GTX OCX. Plus u didn't answer my question, Vista Displays Standard CPU Frequency and next to it the overclocked 1 ? Is it supposed to be like that ? Post you system properties screenshot for reference plz ...

Oh and is it normal for my CPU Multiplier to be 8.5 ?

Yes, it displays the OCed frequency after the frequency your processor is rated for.

As far as your CPU Multiplier is concerned, what was the value before the overclock? What was the host clock frequency before and now? CPU-Z screenshots before and after the overclock would be useful.
