| well, i've the read the article, and while it's pretty interesting , it didn't offer me clues as to why i cant get past 264 FSB. this weekend i'll do more through testing and documenting and post here. |

| Myself and cool_case have been talking about our overclocking experience with a p4c800e-deluxe in the Intel sis chipset forum. We are going to continue our discussion here.

| Cool_case, hopefully you can update to bios 1011 using your usb key and get a higher OC.

| Hi cool_case, Just installed the Zalman 7000a-cu cooler with some arctic silver 5. My idle temperature is 78F now. With the intel stock cooler and it's goop, my temperature was around 90F.

| VSEKH, Got BIOS 1011 installed via a boot CD ROM. It definitely made a difference, but not a huge difference. Was almost able get into windows at 242 fsb, but it didn't really get in until I dropped the fsb to 238. That setting wasn't very stable, so I've been running it at 237 -- though it needs to drop to 236 when the graphic card use is heavy. So, the real gain is +1-2 depending on how you meaure it. Before changing the BIOS to 1011 and using DanX's recommendation to set the spread spectrum setting to disable, the fsb setting had been 3-4 lower. Little gains, but real gains. Maybe some of DanX's rec's with the dram settings would work, but I'm not ready to try those yet. Because it won't get beyond 230 until the voltage is at 1.675, and it almost boots into windows at 242, I suspect that a voltage setting above 1.7 would get me running beyond 240 fsb. But, because of the dire warnings about going beyond 1.7 with air, I don't have the nerve to test > 1.7v even with having one of the best chip air coolers with the Zalman 7000Cu and temps never above 46 (115F). Most who've gottten beyond 240 using the 3.0C have used a water or compressor-based chip cooling method.

| I've seen a few threads with members reporting that they can reach upto 242FSB with a 3.0C. They are using an air cooler like we are. Sorry to hear that you aren't getting a stable OC higher than 238FSB. I have the vcore set to 1.6 right now. During idle it stays at 1.68, but during load it goes down to 1.6. Hopefully I won't have to raise the vcore anymore than 1.6 to get to 250FSB. Right now I can't complain with the CPU temperature at 28C/82F. I'm gonna crank up the FSB to 245 shortly and see if it is stable.

| Good luck... The P4C from what I've seen will reboot several times before it gives up on a fsb speed. The 238 fsb worked on the second boot.

| I set the FSB to 245 and booted up. Got to windows, but then the programs started failing and the system rebooted itself. I'm currently running a stable system with the FSB at 242.

| So, that's a 2.6 oc'd to about 3.15Ghz, or a bump of 550 Mhz. That's about what I've gotten. Also, you had to back it off about the same as me to run stably. 242 fsb is running the PC4000 pretty strong. Any increase in temps than when you were at 240 fsb? Are you running with the Zalman on the cpu? Change any other settings?

| Update for you, I was looking at the first post from DanX. I forgot to disable USB legacy. So, I disabled USB legacy, set the FSB to 245, saved the settings, and rebooted. It came up fine and stable. Temperature is currently at idle 29C/84F for the CPU with the Zalman cooler.

| Boy, that's a significant change. Nice! Good temps too. Were there any other of DanX's rec's besides the spread spectrum and USB legacy disabling that you incorporated?

| Also, I set the vdimm to 2.75 instead of 2.85. I left performance mode to AUTO and I might enable Performance Acceleration Mode.

| Interesting ... vdimm backed off, turbo off, and PAT not enabled. Wouldn't have guessed those would help. I thought the turbo setting just wasn't a positive, didn't know it could be a negative. I'll give these settings a try a little later. Let me know what happens if you change the PAT setting ...

| Actually PAT is still enabled. I just checked in cpuz. I disabled PAM, a feature that Asus added supposedly only to the 865 chipset mobos to enable PAT-like settings, but is included on the 875 chipset mobos.

| Where is the PAM setting found in the BIOS - what name does it go by? Have you tried going beyond 245?
