| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** OK, even with only two dimms I am still playing. I am stable at 3.4 but when I run the sensor test my multiplyer drops during the cool down stage. The multiplyer stays at 21 during heat up and my temps go from mid 30's to mid 50's , not really bad and much better than previously. But.... during the cool down test my multilier drops from 21 to 18 then to 11 then finally to 3 at the last stage giving me a very low core speed. The temps do not climb any higher while this is going on and in fact they start to come down during the cool down phase but still the multi drops. When the cool down test is finished and all cores drop in activity the multi imediatly goes back to 21 and temps are by then back in the mid 30's. I have tried this with hyperthreading enabled and disabled but it is still the same. I have C1E disabled, C-State disabled and Speedstep is no longer visable. Is this normal? Any ideas? Perhaps it is memory related. My three new DIMMS will be in tomorrow sometime.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hey Dan, try enabling everything in the CPU configuration. Then go to Intel Speedstep tech and disable it, then disable the other stuff. Maybe that will fix it.... I think what's happening to you is normal, if ya have speedstep enabled.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hey Dan, its speedstep. I set bios to auto default, and 21 multi. When I got into windows my multi showed 12 in CPU-Z. Then I cranked up LinX, stressed the cpu. And the multi goes right to 21, shut er down and multi goes down to 12. here's some screenies.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Dan here's the right way or quick way to bring up speedstepping in the bios. All's ya got a do, is go to the CPU Ratio Setting in the Extreme Tweaker. Where you would type in a ratio # instead type in auto. Then look in the CPU configuration, and there she is pretty as can be.....

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Saving or storing oc profiles in the bios, is really handy. My #1 profile is for default settings, #2 for 4300mhz oc, #3 for 4200mhz oc #4 for 4400mhz oc #5 4500MHZ oc I've been playing around @ default speeds with everything in the bios CPU config. on auto. I just thought it was time to visit the lower end of the CPU and see what goes.... ![]()

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** As usual Sir Skully, thanks a bunch. I just got my new RAM kit in from Corsair and now I see all 6 Gb so it was a bad stick. I am suprised with all the extreme testing they do on the Dominator GT memory but they were also suprised and shiped me out replacement memory right away. Great service. I will use your findings as soon as I finish working for the day and post results.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Arrrrrrgggggg Still a few gremlins around![]() The good news is that the memory issue was a bad stick. The bad news is that I took a break and when I came back to my ofice my main workstation had two screens full of artifacts and was locked. A rebbot had no video yet the computer seemed to be booting. The long and short of it is that my 2 year old BFG GTX 8800 in my main workstation died. I have no spare GPU's that are worth a *&^%& So, I have to work and therefore I had to pull my new GTX 285 out of my test rig and put it into everyday service. BFG is honoring their lifetime warrenty but I am down to one big rig for a few days unless I want to swap the GPU back and forth. One observation however, this OCed GTX 285 is a beast. I had not really tested it in my new i7 rig yet, for now it had just provided a video out. I have tried a few games on it and it really rocks. I had noticed a reduction of picture quality and thought that one of my monitors was just loosing ommph, it is crisp and bright again.
