Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

Greetings Shaz, yes therte have a bunch of headroon and the newer releasses seem to be even better.

Thanks SS, I have boosted the voltages a little and am stable with testing continuing. I may get another chip to see the difference, perhaps a DO stepping i7.

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

I am waiting for the i7975 to be out for a few months to see if that is worth it. I am now stable at 3.612, I had to boost my voltages a tiny bit to get through OCCT. My temps are 77 76 73 74, A little higher than I would like but then, I would not usually be running with all 4 physical and 4 virtual cores at 100%. Next I will try to get to 3.8 stable.I amk not sure if this chip will do it however, especially on air.

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

They should with the latest BIOS updates. They and the i7 950 are DO stepping just like the latest 920 batch. I am sure that they will overclock much higher but I doubt anything has the heasdroom of some of these 920's , like your latest one

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

I don't know if I'll upgrade to the new one's for awhile. As I'm pretty happy with this chip. But thanks for answering.

By the by I've said that before..... and upgraded as soon as the new chip came out.......

I some NE R2E reviews and there were a bunch of dead/problem boards. Be glad you are bored. It is getting to be more of a crap shoot in buying electronics that work nowadays. Glad you two are having good success.

Yeah I'm really glad I am bored. I concur with you about electronics being a crap shoot. I've had my share of bad electronics......

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

I've got a good/tested power supply, video card, hard drives, monitor with no dead pixels after a year. My video card will do FTW speeds and barely get hot. Same with my CPU. I am trying some new Mushkin DDR3 next week and sometime this year I will buy the latest revision DP45SG mobo. Get yer parts from NE. They have excellent return service.

One thing I noticed, these X58 boards are too big to go in my Antec 300 case. I would hate to get a new case but if I did it would definitely be the Antec 900 II.

Yeah ya got a be really careful when selecting electronics. Research on the net and buying where they have a good return policy. As it may take a couple tries to get a good device.

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

I've been running bios 1204, went back to bios 1306.
I'm trying to lower my CPU/QPI/DRAM voltages from 1.41
to 1.36v, this is for a 4.2gig oc. So far its holding using OCCT linpack to stress, holding now for 30 min. Looks promising.....
