Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

Yeah I had to choose between a i7 970 or 2x120gig SSD's.
I thought with water cooling, and good temps, core voltage good, 4.2gig solid oc.
I was fast enough for awhile, and new technology with SSD's
really interested me. More so then new cpu tech @ this juncture.

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

Booting from BIOS 2 makes no dif. What I did was back up BIOS 1 to BIOS 2 then I changed the jumper to boot from BIOS 2. I still get the same issue. With HT enabled resorce monitor shows cores 0 and 2 are active and cores 1 and 3 are parked. CPU-z only shows two cores.
With H-T disabled all 4 cores are active in resorce monitor and all 4 show in CPU-z.
Tiz a puzzlement.

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

I was thinking that bios might be corrupted and bios 2 may have confirmed that. Think I would flash bios 2 with a fresh bios file to rule this out.

What are folks' idle/load temps on the i7 with this board on air cooling?

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

OK, new BIOS 1306 flash on BIOS 2, no difference. I guess I could clear the BIOS first and try again but using EZFlash it first erases the BIOS anyway.
I may call ASUS and see what they say. I am also posting this on other forums. I will come back with what I find.
For now I am running with HT off and therefore using all 4 cores at 3.6.

They vary but with air cooling and OCed to 3.6 I am getting mid 30's with low load and up to low 70's with 100% load on all cores. There are some good pictures from a number of us earlier in this thread.
Sir S, who has done the most of any of us and who has used a few different i7 chips is OCing higher and getting amazing results. Take a look back a few pages.

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

shaz, these i7 920 chips are all different from one another. some are better then others. But most all will give a 3.6gig to 3.8gig on air. Dan's temps @ 3.6gig are good for air. My second 920 chip would just get 3.6gig @ best. This third chip gets over 4.2gig and is stable @ 4.2 for 24/7 use. And yeah there are guys getting 4.2+ on air. Its just being fortunate enough to draw one. By the by I'm running a H2o cooling system.
