| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Mike, Eureka! That thread gave me a clue. In msconfig I had set my boot---advanced options to boot using 4 cores. I just did that earlier in the week. I have found that setting the number of cores to max does speed up the boot a little. BTW, not everyone agrees with this but with my slower QX6700 Vista computer I could see the difference. Anyway, I re-enabled HT in the bios then I went back in msconfig and set it to EIGHT cores on boot and I can see all eight cores now in resource monitor, four of them are parked but you would expect that with hyperthreading cores when they are not being used by a multithreaded application. CPU-Z now shows 4 cores, eight threads. Device manager shows 8 threads. I am stable at 3.612 with HT enabled and with all 8 threads ready for business. Thanks guys for the variopus ideas and for sticking with me on this. ( I am going to pop open a good bottle of wine and BBQ a couple of steaks )

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hi SS, I agree. I am not running as high as you but I am running at 3.6 on air trouble free. I have put this rig through a lot of real life activities and all is well. I can run stable at 3.8 but that is it so I backed down to 3.6 for 24 7 use. I am going to build a new rig for my nephew so I may use my 920 chip for that and either get a new one with D O stepping or even an i7 970 when they become available. The combo of the RE-II Ex and the i7 along with WIn 7 is a big winner.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hey Dan, good to hear from ya. Glad your rig is running smooth. It seems that all the fun is gone with our well running rigs..... Nothing to fix no one to help.... It really is nice to have a powerhouse rig that runs great. I really always have something to do, if nothing else its learning new software.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Am about to order another rampage 11 extreme mobo and have a good deal on i7 920 do stepping cpu.Supplier is unable to give bios version of new mobo.I realise that only bios 1204 and above support do stepping.Any thoughts on older bios allowing me to flash with unsupported stepping ( my instinct says no ) |

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Should be no issue no matter what the BIOS that comes installed. I would just flash to the latest as soon as you get it running. THe older BIOS should not keep your D O stepping 920 from allowing you to configure and flash.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hi SS, I am able to stay stable at 3.8 but I am running it normally at 3.64. It is stable and fast. I have been using my QX6700 workstation more because I have been busy with work but I plan on installing more Apps in the i7 rig soon. I have installed Office 07 with no issues as well as a few games. I am going to help my nephew build his first DIY computer this Summer so I am thinking of giving him my i7 920 C O chip. I then have to decide on if I want to go with an i7 975, which was my original plan or just get a new i7 920 D O chip and OC it to about 4 Ghz. I am so impressed with this REII and the 920 that I am thinking of doing the latter.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Sir Skully, I know you have had great success with your latest 920, much more than with the earlier ones. Is your latest one a D O stepping vintage?

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Its a CO/CI, but one of the best from what I see on the net. Notice the Vcore voltage, on the 4.2gig oc its 1.38v, nice... This is why I didn't try out a DO stepping.
