Sir Skully, or any of you, have you loaded the new 1406 BIOS yet? I am still running 1306 but I see there is a new version.

Very nice rig, how are your temps with the thermalright? I'm thinking of your video card too, any problems with it? Nice pictures!

Well I haven’t started to overclock yet but the temps at stock clocks have been fluctuating between 27-29C.

I haven’t had any problems with the video card but you really are going have to crank the resolution and AA up in games to find any use out of the 2GB of on-board RAM.

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

I have 2x24" Dell lcd's so I do want to have every thing maxed out at 1920x1200 when I game on a single panel, I really don't know if the extra gig will make any difference at that those resolutions?

Thanks.

The Q9650 hasn’t exactly been a slouch either, but if I can at least get a stable 4GHz out of the 975 without some of those scary temps I’ve been reading about, I’ll be a happy camper.

Yeah ya have a power house cpu...I'm running the i7 920 @ 4.2gig for about 3
months now. Vcore voltage 1.38v...You shouldn't have any problems reaching
4gig oc.

I forgot to ask you guys about this.

In the past I’ve always, whether I use it or not, connect a floppy drive in my machine. Because of the Rampage II Extreme’s floppy connector’s placement, I decided not to use the floppy drive this time around.

Much to my surprise on fresh reformatted Vista and XP OS’s the A: Floppy Drive still shows up in device manager and in “My Computer”.

Is there something in BIOS that I’m missing with this issue that should be “disabled”?

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

Never mind, I see that it can be “disabled” in the “Main” menu of BIOS.

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

I flashed to new bios 1406. The first flash gave some problems,
at least I thought it did. So reflashed, my saved bios profile wouldn't
work. So input it manually, now all is peachy king....

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

Hi djt, nice rig, loonin good. I see that you opted for an add in sound card instead of the X-Fi riser card that came with the REII. I am thinking about doing that but as this is still my test rig I am still using headphones with it so I have not had the need. I see you put it in slot 3? An issues?
What OS are you running.
That 075 processor was the one I was waiting for but I got itchy to play so I picked up my CO stepping 920 and I have been very happy with it. I am running it at 3.64 stable at 100% load with air so you should have absolutly no problem. I will have to soon but another processor as I am going to help my nephew build his first DIY (reward for his 4.4 GPA this year) so I can either get a new 920 with the DO step or just get a 975 which was the original plan. I am still undecided.

SS I have read that the new 1406 BIOS does not retain your settings so I guess what you saw, having to manually input from scratch is normal. Any other issues? I assume you are still running at your amazingly fast speeds and low temps?

Re: *** rampage ii extreme ***

djt,
I was not going to use a floppy either but I found a neat card reader that matched everything that had a floppy built in so I did add it. I used it once for a BIOS flash but a flash drive is so easy that I may not ever need it. I had to get the longest floppy cable I could find and it barely reached but then I am anal about not seeing cables so that added to my problem but it all worked out.
