| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Skully, I was able to OC last night. I took my mem off XMP settings and set mem to auto. It went from 7-7-7-20-41-1T-1.66V to 8-8-8-19 1.54V. I then used IDCC to turn Turbo off and set host clock to 165MHz. It rebooted fine and was running at 3.30GHz. The core voltage remained at default 1.20V. I only OC'd for a little while as I am waiting to install the TRUE HSF again. I am sure this board will do 3.6GHz but I doubt it will hit 4.0. I'll see later. Thanks, Sandog |

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hi Sir Skully,(and all) I finally got my new D O 920 and I have started the adventure all over again. I also flashed the latest BIOS. The first thing is my Temps are higher, Here is the shot of my OC results. Temps with no load are average 5 degrees higher and under 100% load they get to over 80 degrees C. Here is what I have so far with no load. I am going to remove my 9900 and reseat it to see if that helps. I will send the BIOS pics in the next post. Let me know if you have any comments, Thanks, as always. ![]()

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Here are the pertinant BIOS screens. I have not fine tuned yet but the temps with these settings and at 100% load are way too high. It is either something in my settings that is way off or I need better cooling, or both. I am considering the new CNPS 10X (Zalman) which they say is 25% better at levels over 130 Wts up to 200 Wts. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hey Dan..... ![]() I wonder how far that DO will oc with default CPU voltage? Yeah temps are to high @ load..... Setting for 3600 look ok.... But you get up around 4000mhz oc . You may want to up voltage on N and S bridge a notch

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** I think it will OC much higher but the temps concern me. I therefore hesitate to push further until I get the temp thing fixed. I can not even run Prime 95 for long before I chicken out with the 80 degree plus temps. Except for that all is stable. RIght now I am posting this using the i7 rig and the load is just about 0, the speed is 3622.7 and the temps are 51 49 52 47. Perhaps when the thermal compound settles they may drop a little. I did remount the CNPS 9900 this time using the paint on Zalman STG1 but it made no difference. When I removed the 9900 the thermal paste (AS5) looked even and there were no gaps. I think I am going to get a CNPS 10Extreme which Zalman says (I called them today) is 30% more efficient. I know there are other towers but the 10X uses the same mount so I should not have to remove my MOBO to try it.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Hi SS, No new cooler yet but I have made some progress by lowering the CPU voltage. Aparently the DO step does not need as much voltage to remain stable and it runs hotter with equal voltage. Let me give you some numbers. These are with no load but OCed to 3.6 Volts Core 1 Temp Core 2 Temp Core 3 Temp Core 4 Temp 1.35 ........ 51 .......... 48 .......... 48 ............ 49 1.28 ........ 48 .......... 46 .......... 48 ............ 43 1.25 ........ 45 .......... 44 .......... 46............. 40 1.23 ........ 45 .......... 43 .......... 45 ............ 39 1.21 ........ 43 .......... 41 .......... 44 ............ 38 I ran 10 min of Prime 95 with each of them and the temps droped there also. At 1.21 however my OC failed so I then want back to 1.22. At 100% load my temps at 1.22V were 66 64 68 60 So, all in all progress on the temp front. This DO does act differently than my CO. I am going to get a tower cooler over the weekend and see if that drops the temps a few more degrees. In the meantime it is my goal to get to 3.8 to 4.0 stable on air.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Yeah I also picked up a 920 DO, and it run to hot for my liking. My CO ran much cooler at The same oc. They/DO run with less voltage... I'll do like you're doing Dan, and see if I can knock down the temp a wee bit...

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** With the DO 920's there are two things that help, a good cooler and well mated to the cpu. And keeping the voltage as low as possible, that in and of its self helps to keep the temps down.....I'm @ 4200mhz with Vcore @ 1.28v for 20min so far.. I was using using Ceramique paste, to Antec formula 5...paste.. OCCT Limpack now running 30min..........Looks promising......for a 24/7 oc.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Skully I see you have HT disabled. Thats a big minus in heat generation right there. I lowered temps 2C by choosing Auto mem settings vs. XMP which set the mem to 1600. |

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** Thanks for the info, I'll try OCCT with HT enabled as soon as I finish up this run of OCCT. What oc, and Vcore are you @ also load temps?

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** I am picking up a CNPS10X this weekend, I have also been able to get to 4.0 but I do not like the temps although the lower voltage is helping. There are sooooo many settings to play with in this REII BIOS. Once I get my best effore I will repost the settings.

| Re: *** rampage ii extreme *** I just got running a couple of hours ago and I can happily say I didn't screw up my CPU by lapping it lol. Temps didn't really lower but I have a much better fit than I did before. I will be on my way to OCing again here shortly. |
